ANNOUNCING Judgment Day PBEM Game (FREE) From: ksienert@nyx.cs.du.edu (Karl Sienerth) Date: Tue, 26 Jul 1994 13:15:44 +0000 ******************** A N N O U N C I N G ******************** I will be moderating a new game of Judgment Day (v1.0), to be played via Email (FREE, of course). For those of you who are unfamiliar with this game, I quote from the Rules sheet: "Judgment Day is a game of Global Conquest and Thermonuclear War for up to 61 players. The scenario is as follows: In the 22nd century, astronomers discovered a habitable planet in the Alpha Centauri star system. A fleet of colony ships was soon launched. After decades of travel, a colony was founded on the planet. The land area of the planet consists of a single small, square continent, which the colonists divided up into politically autonomous regions. Now, many years after the landing, warlords have gained power in some of the regions, and global war appears imminent." The game is copyrighted to Russell Wallace, who has given me permission to moderate it in the style described below. Since I have not moderated this game before, the initial game will consist of only four players, so that I may "get my feet wet" before moderating a larger game. The first four players from whom I receive confirmation will play this initial game. NEWBIES ARE WELCOME! The four who play the initial game will automatically be given "spots" on the first subsequent game to be played (as "payment" for putting up with an uninitiated GM!). Furthermore, any prospective players who apply, but are not among the first four, will be given first chance at a future game. I anticipate that, after this initial game is complete (or at least well underway), I will moderate at least two games simultaneously: one for CLUELESS NEWBIES to PBEMing, and one for VETERANS of ANY PBEM game. The rules for the game are relatively simple, and can be obtained by anonymous FTP from ftp.cp.tn.tudelft.nl or ftp.erg.sri.com (/pub/pbm/judgment_day) as the GZIPed file "judgment.rules.gz". Note that you must unzip the program using gzip (available from ftp.cp... in the /pub/pbm directory as the file gzip-1.2.4.msdos.exe). I will ATTEMPT to Email the rules file to any who request it, but will NOT DO SO if the number of requests is overwhelming. PLEASE FTP/unzip the file yourself if you have the ability and expertise. Additional information regarding specific game play will be given after confirmation. To apply, send the following info to me by Email (ksienert@nyx.cs.du.edu) with the subject line "APPLY JD": Name: Email address: Are you a NEWBIE to Judgement Day?: Yes/No Are you a NEWBIE to PBEM games?: Y/N I have read the rules: Y/N [CONFIRMED: Y/N] You may apply initially without confirmation; I will answer all questions which I am able to, and will attempt to direct you to proper sources for answers which I cannot supply. Please DO NOT CONFIRM your application unless you have read the rules, and are SURE you are going to play. Hope to hear from some of you . . . KDS Up
