Abalone PBeM Notation From: rrognlie@netcom.com (Richard Rognlie) Date: Sat, 06 Aug 1994 13:26:53 +0000 I am working on create an Abalone PBeM Server (pbmserv@netcom.com), and have asked if there is a standard Abalone notation. The one (1) answer I received specified a notation used in Games magazine that I felt was cumbersome. I have two ideas for a Abalone notation, and wish to poll the net for preferences. Option 1: a-i represent row. 1-n represent column (skewed 60 degrees) a1 a2 a3 a4 a5 b1 b2 b3 b4 b5 b6 c1 c2 c3 c4 c5 c6 c7 d1 d2 d3 d4 d5 d6 d7 d8 e1 e2 e3 e4 e5 e6 e7 e8 e9 f2 f3 f4 f5 f6 f7 f8 f9 g3 g4 g5 g6 g7 g8 g9 h4 h5 h6 h7 h8 h9 i5 i6 i7 i8 i9 Option 2: a-i represent row. 1-n represent spots from left most position. a1 a2 a3 a4 a5 b1 b2 b3 b4 b5 b6 c1 c2 c3 c4 c5 c6 c7 d1 d2 d3 d4 d5 d6 d7 d8 e1 e2 e3 e4 e5 e6 e7 e8 e9 f1 f2 f3 f4 f5 f6 f7 f8 g1 g2 g3 g4 g5 g6 g7 h1 h2 h3 h4 h5 h6 i1 i2 i3 i4 i5 -- /\/\/\ | Richard Rognlie / Sr. Computer Analyst / PRC Inc. / McLean, VA / \ \ \ | E-Mail: rrognlie@netcom.com *or* rognlie_richard@prc.com \ / / / | Phone: (Home) (703) 361-4764 (Office) (703) 556-2458 \/\/\/ | (Fax) (703) 556-1174 Up
