From: duursma+@cs.cmu.edu (Ron Duursma) Subject: WRGPT4 update and reminder Date: 6 Sep 1994 15:35:12 GMT Organization: School of Computer Science, Carnegie Mellon UPDATE: - We now have 287 signups. Yikes! - Every one should have received confirmation by e-mail - We'll start a "practice" round probably next week - Rules and documentation will be mailed out this week - When signing up, please include your real-life name if it does not already appear in the header. If it is missing we will substitute something ugly. REMINDER: - sign up if you haven't already, and tell your friends to do the same. Original announcement follows: ------------------------------ WRGPT4 ANNOUNCEMENT Several people have stepped forward and offered resources to run WRGPT4 on. It now seems a near certainty that we will indeed be running the Fourth "World Rec.Gambling Poker Tournament" after all. Tentative start date has been set for 10/3/94. For those of you unfamiliar with WRGPT, it is a giant poker tournament played by e-mail. Following the format of the World Series at Binion's, it is a $10,000 "buy-in" no-limit holdem contest. Number of entries has grown from 30 in WRGPT1 to 132 in WRGPT2 and 195 in WRGPT3. Be prepared that this is not likely to be a fast-paced event. It takes an average of somewhere between one and two DAYS to complete a hand, with occasional exceptions of a week or more. Past winners are Steve Jacobs, Ed Baker and Roy Hashimoto. As with irc poker, no real money is involved. Complete rules will be posted later. This message is your notification to sign up for the event. All you need is a reliable Internet connection through perhaps as late as May 1995. HOW TO SIGN UP: Simply send mail to duursma+wrgpt4@debubly.scandal.cs.cmu.edu. For most people, an empty message will do just fine. However, if you will be sending mail from other accounts instead of, or in addition to, the one you're sending the sign-up message from, you must indicate this in your message. In addition it is possible to receive your tournament mail at addresses other than, or in addition to, the one you're using for the sign-up message. Please indicate that as well. I will read the sign-up mail infrequently. If you must reach me directly send mail to duursma@tartan.com See you at the tables!! Ron Duursma Up
