The Tikoran Imperial Matriarchy is moving extremely large sums of money for an unknown purpose. Shortly after being assigned to find out why, one of our reporters quit, bought a parcel of land on one of the GUN Dyson Sphere's Battlemoons, and is apparently constructing a mansion. In a flurry of incompetent back-stabbing Perv and the CEO of AGR Tech managed to miss the mark completely and wound up making up instead. Politics makes strange bedfellows. CCB Repossession Division reports unusual difficulty in recovering the debts owed by The Astarin Empire and Trillians. The difficulty in tracking items in E-Space being cited. The officials are said to be considering seizing assets of IR&D. Followers of the Dawn are attempting to contact the Sillithrids to confirm a report that said race had discovered their missing Ringworld abandoned in a nebula in ##N. The One has successfully built the largest Dyson Sphere constructed by a wolfling race. The sphere is rumored to be located in ONE sector. There are further rumors that the sphere is guarded solely by a task force of Hornets. The Mressa are doing quite well as CEO of AGR Tech having contracted (at last count) at least 30 races. However, the incidence of violent outbreaks and forced institutionalization has tripled. This is believed to have been caused by the repression of the racial tendency towards violence that the race has been forced to endure due to the level of civility required for diplomatic contacts. Several races are petitioning GUN to censor Catart Mister for causing an "Extreme Navigational Hazard" in the IL subquadrant with their paranoid Proximity Mine fields. Evidentally they are tired of their tresspassing protests falling on deaf audio sensors. The Silicates trade empire is growing in leaps and bounds as they will apparently trade with any race that doesn't successfully destroy their vessels when they start their Cloaked Trade run. Despite the fact that Khepera officials deny that they have a Sphinx-class warship they have received numerous orders for the vessel, the largest order being from The Astarin Empire for 100 vessels at a bid of 100B each. The Pharoah was said to have ordered a purge of the starship design staff to plug the leak of information about their vessels. Vereinigung der FreienHaendler are gearing up for war with their consortium leader following a breakdown in diplomatic channels. The leader of the race heading the consortium is said to be the semi- legendary Darzalion. He is apparently in a frothing rage because of this defection. Word of Darzalion's reappearance has apparently caused several "friendly fire" incidents amongst races wanting a piece of the errant autocrat. Rainbow Serpent is testing the Kurrijarra class warship, one of the new lines of vessels to appear out of the ACME shipyards with Phase Shielding. Some wonder if this is a relationship of convenience or if the Serpent will spend some of their huge investment capital towards a greater military presence to counter future aggression. Vancore and an unknown backer are supposed to be "coming out of the closet" soon with a new financial strategy. This strategy will turn the current economic hierarchy of the galaxy upside down. Leadership of the Three Fingers of Hoek consortium has been assumed by Tikoran Imperial Matriarchy in what was described as a bloodless coup. Long-term effects of this power transfer remain to be seen. GUN scientists are repairing an E-Space rift near the GUN Dyson Sphere apparently caused by either a prototype Phase Shield Generator or a party held jointly on SD 0089 by Drill Confederation and The Krull. Requests are already coming in for news of the next party and sedatives for the damage done by the last one. Huan Ti Heavy Industries is reportedly operating at a very high level of efficiency, managing a very healthy profit margin for its investors. The CEO of Huan Ti has been on vacation for the past 20 Stardates, which explains the boom in business. Attempts to contact the CEO were broken off when the investors (scared of his possible return) threatened to tie the reporter to the business end of an Ion Cannon and "clear the barrel". SPAM was implicated in a plot to take control of a military luncheon food product plant owned by Corporate America. Corporate America has been advancing steadily in technology with the assistance of their consortium the Three Fingers of Hoek. Assuming no interference from mythological beings of great power (who carry hammers and are said to hold a grudge against their ancestors) Starkaad Realm is expected to successfully colonize one sector in each quadrant of the galaxy by Stardate 0092. For insurance against the mentioned interference they are said to be in dialogue with several of the more serpentine members of the galaxy and the new "hot" mercenary peoples The Red Race. The Red Race are said to have experience in myth killing. At Ra'sharka the launch of a huge trading vessel task force was greeted with much public rejoicing. The desire for new products and entertainments is said to be only barely matched by their desire for new customers for their own products. It is believed at this time that they concluding a trade pact with Becodiani which will put Becodiani in a position of having more trade partners than they have cargo. Matrola, the aggressive member of Allied Galactic Races/Galactic Alliance of Races (whichever?) up to now has been kept barely in check by the consortium leader has been building up considerable military forces for an unauthorized war. The Dark Wolves are gearing up for an expected grudge war in response to one too many "go grovel elsewhere". In GUN open session Man-A-Wings was brought up on charges of damaging too many Ion beams with their trade vessels. The Ancient Ones say that the energy expense is prohibitive, however, their commanders are gaining much experience. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Short Fiction ------------- "Excerpts from The First Millenium Concordance" - part 4 As Jaxxam rounded the final bend in the connection tube he halted before the soft glow that indicated that the courier's airlock veil was active. It was standard to have a veil operating seperately from the Nexus power systems, in case of power failure or a breach in the tube beyond the Nexus safety perimeter. The veil wasn't harmful to pass through, but had the tendency to impart a static charge to one's directional cilla, that tended to be uncomfortable (akin to having a blackboard scratched, while experiencing vertigo). The veil was lowered after a short delay by what Jaxxam assumed was the Duty Officer. A Duty Officer was required on the operations console at all times. There had been attempts to plant Tracers on Aquilian vessels before and hopefully, all had been detected. The Tracers themselves were marvels of technology that incorporated E-Space communication technology in a comparatively small package. Whenever a sensor was activated by the FTL Jumps upon arrival it would transmit its position to the nearest comm relay belonging to the owners. Their power supplies were only good for about 9 transmissions, but that alone could reveal devastating information. Jaxxam passed through the physical airlock, hearing the veil crackle back into place behind him. He immediately headed for the battle bridge (on scouts they are called that because they have no secondary operational area other than engineering), and entered through the primary air shaft. In doing so he had to retract his diameter significantly due to the reduced size of the shaft, space was at a premium on a scout. He saw the Duty Officer, a sub-lieutenant (Chirspa apprentice?) was reviewing their latest catch of Intercepted Transmissions. The Embassy Nexus was the focal points for all of the Elder Race's message traffic. There was always speculation that a lot of frequency overflow, that allowed those in the know to pick up message traffic, was allowed to happen on purpose in order to provide distraction for wolfling races needing outlets for aggression. They did provide at the least a nice peek into things happening around the galaxy. It all went into the intelligence files for possible future use. Looking over some of the traffic being monitored, there were several relay chirps from Tracers on Task Forces moving from place to place. The Elders for the most part kept out of the daily business of the galaxy, but that didn't mean that they didn't like to keep their hands (or whatever digits they possessed) in the information acquisition business. Also of greater interest was a report of clandestine center activity on a planet in a subquadrant where we had previously thought that there was no activity. The Duty Officer forwarded the Intercepts to our embassy where they would be classified and disseminated to the proper departments. Turning to one of the bridge's datanet nodes Jaxxam checked to see if there was any information on what his assignment could possibly be, he found no briefing file for him to review. This in itself was not suprising considering his occupation. The Covert Action Force was not in the habit of putting assignment information on the open net. What he did notice, was some new information had been imported to the net with a recent time/date stamp on the effects of long term non-native corporeal transference. Until the transference technology was developed it was nearly impossible to transport significant numbers of population to colonize worlds, without getting into the immense, terribly expensive, and logistically immprobable cryogenic vessels. Transference turned the physical portion of the body into a digitized number matrix with the opposite happening when the sleepers arrived on the other end. So sleepers were really nothing more than giant data storage units, with multiplicitive redundent power systems. The reason this technology was not used with Assault Platoon Transports was the period of disorientation that followed reintegration tended to make them less effective along with the immense space demands of all the support equipment needed for planetary invasions. There have been endless speculation on why when the process is duplicated after reintegration has been performed once the new physical shells remain lifeless and with absolutely no cerebal activity. Most of the theory borders on the metaphysical, and requires belief in absolutes on faith. There were periodic resurgences of "transference cults" that claim to communicate with bodiless intelligences that are guidng them along a path of galactic wisdom. Anyway, what transference did allow for on a smaller scale was manipulation ofthe physical data matrix to allow major changes in appearance upon reintegration. This made the process perfect for creating spies with the outward appearance of the alien race they were attempting to infiltrate. One of the drawbacks of this process was that the mind tended, over long periods, to change- adapting itself to the new rythums of the body it now inhabited. This commonly led to mental instability, and even outright psychotic breaks as the mind was being forced into things against some of it's more basic nature. Some of the ways of combatting this involved various forms of ego-centrism, and post hypnotics designed to seal off certain portions of the mind when imbalances occured. However it was never good practice to remain in a non-native body an longer than necessary.
