ME-PBM:set-up swaps already? C'mon guys! From: v011l6fc@ubvms.cc.buffalo.edu (DAVE ROSSELL) Date: Sat, 01 Oct 1994 05:56:00 +0000 All these set-up swap messages for the new game are making interesting reading. I confess, I also am disappointed that this sort of thing is occurring so early on. I'm still in c. 1650, so I'm not directly affected, but it just doesn't seem to be in the spirit of the game. Why join the new game if you want to get the same sort of predictability out of it as the 1650 game? It won't be long before the new game becomes as stale as the old. But, the first thing I did when I started 1650 was pore over the setups of my friends and enemies. Such behavior is necessary in 1650 in order to avoid getting absolutely stomped. Why turn 2950 into the same thing? Because of the fear that there's always someone else out there gathering set-ups, learning your nation's weaknesses. The only way to keep ME-PBM 2950 from turning into another elaborate strategy game is for everyone to show a bit of courage and integrity and avoid the easy way out. I, for one, would like to have to use agents to find enemy pop centers, to have a character walk into a dragon encounter quaking in his or her boots, not knowing the answer that would save his or her life. Some folks already have forsworn set-up mongering. The rest of us should have to courage to do the same, and pull out our dusty copies of Tolkien, rather than set-up sheets. okay, off soapbox. good luck in the new game everyone, but watch out. It won't be long before the Dark Servants crush the Freeps in 1650 #175, then we'll come looking for victims in the next millenia. dave r ******************************************************************************** Dave Rossell "When you lay your dreams to rest, v011L6FC@ubvms.cc.buffalo.edu you can get what's second best, but it's hard to get enough." -David Wilcox ******************************************************************************** Referenced By Up
