Legends : what I want changed From: rta@mundil.cs.mu.OZ.AU (Richard Terence ALLEN) Date: Thu, 20 Oct 1994 10:15:05 +0000 Ive just been thinking that since midnight games has started to tinker with the legends game system it's not beyond the realms of possibilty that they would accept some player input into how to change the system. Consequently it might be useful to start a discusion about what features we would like to see changed, removed or added to the system in the vague outside hope that midnight games might read this and oblige us. This is not dissimilar to roleplaying campaigns where particular long standing groups tailor the rules they play there characters under to suit the players. Also it means that ideas get an airing and can be challenged instead of just being disasterously implemented without player consultation. Midnight games is a private company and is thus not obliged to listen to us (except by good buisness sence) but what can it hurt them. Here are some of my sugestions for ya all to shoot down: i) make the ability to learn a spell, caster level dependant as in most game systems. This is already partially admited to in that it is harder to research high level spells. However once your grand archmage has researched the spell of 'high binding of the enrtopic probabilitys', a level 9 spell, he can easily teach it of to john the farmhand with rank one druid. Whats worse is that john can then teach it to roger the town fool, a rank one illusionist. The scary thing is that, depending on the cost as all high level spells neednt be expensive, the town fool can then start casting this spell. Does this sound realistic to you? I hope not, else you run some pretty monty haul campaigns. Also it wouldnt be to hard to implement in a way similar to priest : every 5 arcane ranks allows you access to a higher spell level. ii) Id like stats like strength and dex to be a little more important. Why not then make racial CF for characters and soldiers mostly dependant on stats and not just some invisible factor. Therefore giants would still be very tougth : there large strength would give them a large CF. Instead the present system gives them a large CF irrelevant of strength: If it does then give them an extra CF bonus because of str (Im not rightly sure) then this is in effect double counting (giants have a high CF because of there str, not in addition to the CF gained via str), if it dosent then this is ignoring the effects that a tree trunk lifting behomoth of str has on combat. I mention this only in that I just recently picked up a str 50 character and didnt even notice this str because in legends it is irrelevant. If you where a str 25 character in AD&D it would be pretty central to your entire character. Well thats my 2 cents worth. Dont bag me to much its my first time ;). Remember if you gotta complaint why not put up a better solution. -Tefkin Referenced By Up
