We want those ships either returned or destroyed. It makes little difference to me. ------------------------------ From: steve668@dallas.relay.ucm.org Date: Fri, 28 Oct 1994 20:45:27 CDT Subject: No Subject J., Actually, While I don't like it, I understand and support the mine limit because it'll force some value back into raw materials. Currently, just try to give away metals, let alone sell them... or most other ores. I think it's a good idea because it'll stimulate the economy without seriously affecting any one position, and those affiliations it does affect shouldn't be affected too badly. Steve ------------------------------ From: steve668@dallas.relay.ucm.org Date: Fri, 28 Oct 1994 21:36:20 CDT Subject: Game Turns Pete & Thad, I recieved a few of my first turns today. while the turnaround wasn't impressive (probably due to the US Post Offal), I was **VERY** impressed with the turn results. I haven't seen that kind of detailed responses in many, many years. I've been so used to the ABM 1-2 line b.s response, that it kinda floored me to see the results. Keep up the great work! The only thing I can think of to suggest is to find and hire Marti for some truely interesting GM-role playing <g> Steve M ------------------------------ From: steve668@dallas.relay.ucm.org Date: Fri, 28 Oct 1994 21:15:39 CDT Subject: Economy, What ECONOMY?! Thad, Pete, or whomever at RTG, Please keep a close watch on the BSE database for other strange occurances such as this one with Doug W. (SMS) and the ISS ship. I'm sure that since doug reports that this occured with colonies also, that there are other little parting "gifts" ABM left in the BSE database. In regards to this ship, John Jefferies needs a ship, and since I don't have a list of whats available for redistribution, could ya'll assign the ship to John? I don't have the name of the ship with me at the moment, but it's the only ISS ship at Secudus with Doug Wampler's name on it. Thanks, Steve M. ------------------------------ From: steve668@dallas.relay.ucm.org Date: Fri, 28 Oct 1994 21:26:57 CDT Subject: Economy, What ECONOMY?! To whomever, A while back someone (I think it was HS Lahman) suggested an idea of birth control (on/off toggle) which when activated would cause a slowing of the population growth. Since the #1 problem with the big colonies is the speed at which the population is screwing, creating a situation which is difficult to keep up with the geometric demands of the population (ie 1.5 million give birth to 10K, next week those 1.51M are giving birth to 10.1K, etc, with a continuous geometric demand on support). If I remember the old idea right, it was a 3 way setting 0 = normal birth, 50% = 1/2 birth rate, and 100% birth control = no birth rate. there was a morale affect (after all some colonists want rug rats) to deal with, also. As the entropy which froze the entire periphery in time, continues to melt, the ISP squadron frozen in the act of battle with a RIP colony, became released from the icy grip of time. The beams of energy which were frozen in the act of firing, just meters from the weapons, finally raced towards their targets. The ISP fleet consisted of a squadron of the older Pommern class Dreadnoughts, supported by 2 of the newer Helgoland class Dreadnoughts. The Imperials bombarded the colony for 3 rounds before breaking off, even though the pirate base had been destroyed on the first round. The class-3 pirate base defended itself and damaged the flagship of the fleet with almost 1600 mu of damage, before it's guns were silenced. It is reported that the last thing the pirates saw was the sky being blacked with huge airborne shapes bearing the markings of the 66th Armor Regiment. Reliable sources indicate that 2/66 AR Battalion is still defending the captured pirate base in Old World, but it is unknown at this time if this is 1/66, 3/66, 4/66, or the entire regiment. This reporter has been unable to get to the remains of the pirate base due to Imperial ground patrols, to get further information on this battle. Film at 11. Steve, I support the idea of allowing some control of colony birthrate, but why only make it worthwhile to the large colonies? I think that a system that allows discouraging births/normal births/encouraging births would be beneficial. This system allows a colony to "smooth" out populaiton growth: increase it when births are needed (usually when starting out), and slow it when it begins to become a problem. Of course, I'm not suggesting/supporting a system that completely lets the gov. off the hook: control should never be so great that new colonies could grow at will without needing an influx of (shipped) colonists, and the big guys should never be able to completly shut it off. Brad, That's just it... as originally proposed, the idea of birth control would benefit all colonies. Big colonies were merely the example I used to illustrate it, since they are the focus of some contention.
