[PBEM News] Something a bit unusual - Lexicon RPG From: Dfaran42@hotmail-dot-com.no-spam.invalid (Dfaran) Date: Tue, 08 Aug 2006 03:05:24 +0000 A lexicon RPG is similar to PBP but not quite the same. The goal of the game is to create and explore a fantasy setting by writing encyclopedia entries about it from the perspective of scholars in that setting. The game takes place in week-long turns. Each turn, players get the chance to write a single article for the encyclopedia. The turns correspond to letters of the alphabet. Each turn, your article has to start with whatever letter it is the turn for. In addition to that, there are rules to make sure that the various articles all connect into a coherent whole. For instance, articles on subjects previously defined by other players - called "phantoms" and equivalent to broken links in a wiki - must be written before new articles can be created. In my opinion, that's one of the funnest aspects of the game, since it means you'll be writing about stuff that you'd never have thought of yourself. It's a bit complicated, but a lot of fun once you get the hang of it. World-builders in particular will enjoy this. It's the kind of game where you can hop in at any point and miss turns without causing problems, and between that and the fact that you get a whole week to write each article, it won't be too huge of a commitment to play. Our lexicon is called simply "the Lexicon RPG" until someone thinks up a better name for it. We're on turn H of round 1 right now, and if there are still enough players by that time I intend to start a second round. So far, our setting is a fantasy setting with some interesting twists. Come check it out Here. If you want to see an example of a lexicon that made it successfully through a couple of rounds, go see Ghyll. -- posted from PBEM News - PBEM listings and announcements Reply to this post at http://www.pbemnews.org Up
