Suggestions for games? From: minnotte@stat0.stat.rice.edu (Michael Minnotte) Date: Tue, 15 Nov 1994 21:36:39 +0000 Well, after a year and a half of fun mixed with frustration, my wife and I have decided that Legends isn't worth the time and money any more. All of the errors (ours, theirs, and the computer's) have made us sick of the game, and we're going to drop pretty good positions because of it. But we still like PBM. So: we need a new game. I'd like to hear suggestions for possible games to start. Preferably, they should have most or all of the following characteristics: 1) A fantasy setting, preferably wargame. 2) Good customer service, including very few turn entry errors. Electronic turn entry at our end is a _big_ plus. 3) Moderate complexity; roughly 1-3 hours preparation/turn for fairly advanced positions. 4) Team play, allowing at least 2-4 people to join together. So, any thoughts? Some ideas I have: Adventurer Kings is an old favorite of mine, and may be what I go back to, but while it's great for 1-3, only rare games allow team play. We played Alamaze a while back, and it was good for 1, 3, and 4, but when we quit (mid-1990, I think), Pegasus' service and turn entry was at least as poor as Midnight Games' has been recently. Anybody played it in the last year or so? How's the service been? Middle Earth looks interesting, and it clearly satisfies 1 and 4. What's the level of complexity, and how is their service? Also, do you need to be a Tolkien (sp?) buff to appreciate it/ do well in it? If 2-4 players (but not a full team) join together, can we be guaranteed of getting positions that are close to each other? While I'd like to hear more on these, I'd also love to hear about any other games people think are good, especially those that don't get talked about here much. Good service and a very low error rate are pretty much must-haves, but I could probably sacrifice one of the other requirements for a sufficiently good game. Thanks! Mike Minnotte Referenced By Up
