Yes, here's the info on it from the 1993 BSE Newsletter Compendium, which RTG seems to have left out of the ASCII rules among other things. System Sensor Array Complex The SSA enables a colony to monitor each ship that enters or exits a system by jumping, moving through stargates or transiting blackholes. The owner is told the name of the ship, the square it left or entered the system and the week # it occurred. It will not detect cloaked or RIP ships. Obviously, this complex is of most importance to governments as it now allows them to monitor incursions into their territories. The SSA is complex #15 and requires the existance of a hiport at the colony prior to being built. Construction cost is 500 ICM's. Plus due to its excessive power demands it expends 50 ICM's and 2400 power every two weeks. Issue the CC-15-1 order to build one. You can shut it on & off by issuing the Change Array order: CA 0 shuts it off and CA 1 turns it on. Once turned on it will monitor the comings and goings of ships for a 2 week period. It doesn't when you turn it on during the 2 week peroid, you will get the entire report for that peroid. This extra printout is mailed separately and will cost an extra $2. - --- Kerry ------------------------------ From: Kerry Harrison <kerry@io.com> Date: Tue, 15 Nov 1994 20:34:01 -0600 (CST) Subject: BSE: Who's Who Beyond the Stellar Empire (BSE) Discussion List Members Active UK Players (KJC Version) - ---------------------------- Bent Dalager <bcd@pvv.unit.no> SMS Kjetil Friden <cezton@nvg.unit.no> IMP Kerry Harrison <kerry@io.com> IMP Leif Roar Moldskred <leifm@stud.unit.no> IMP Thomas Moe <thmoe@oleg.hiof.no> IND Lars Erik Stokka <larssto@alkymi.unit.no> SSL Active US Players (RTG Version) - ---------------------------- Chris Allen <gtt-pd@consensus.com> GTT Brad Braun <btb4@lehigh.edu> USS Rick Burningham <law2be@aol.com> SMS Chip Charnley <ac217@detroit.freenet.org> WCE Todd Clapp <v176@rex.re.uokhsc.edu> ICN David Cromer <prothorax@aol.com> WSP Gene Ferguson <lordzefir@aol.com> EKN Jack Ferguson <jackmyster@aol.com> FGZ George Hammond <gstarrh@umich.edu> USS Kerry Harrison <kerry@io.com> WCE Alan Hatcher <zu02380@uabdpo.dpo.uab.edu> AFT Jerry Holmes <74103.375@compuserve.com> WCE Bill Hopkins <bhopkins@teleport.com> WCE Jay Ibbitson <72570.650@compuserve.com> EKN Dave Isaac <76170.2705@compuserve.com> AFT John Jeffrey, II <nyghtt@aol.com> ISS Phil Krauskopf <pkrauskopf@falcon.aamrl.wpafb.af.mil> WCE Paul Mansfield <paulmans@tmn.com> WCE Steve Mathews <steve668@dallas.relay.ucm.org> ISP Charles Middleton <cmiddlet@ssbpost.env.gov.bc.ca> SMS Carl Linquist <73240.2556@compuserve.com> USS Rob Neal <rfn2@aol.com> FET Walt Pesch <walt@solgrp.chi.il.us> QSN Paul Postak <fk490@cleveland.freenet.edu> USS Kenneth Reeves <72632.2104@compuserve.com> WCE Joe Sanchez <71001.426@compuserve.com> WCE Paul Schneider <pauls@orange.digex.net> WCE Richard Smith <74023.574@compuserve.com> MYR John Stanton <jjs@netcom.com> SMS Jeff Stout <72371.667@compuserve.com> ZCS Patrick Tyrrell <tyrrell@netcom.com> ICN Doug Wampler <wamp@thunder.indstate.edu> SMS Inactive Players (either version) - ------------------------------- Wayne Alexander <71470.344@compuserve.com> ex-IMP Anders Beitness <alb@cwa.com> ex-AFT Phil Breault <71563.216@compuserve.com> Russell Boggs <russell_boggs@isisph.com> ex-WCE Dean Alan Deal <70473.2114@compuserve.com> ex-SSL Dennis Forcier <73047.1521@compuserve.com> Jim Gagliardi <73377.2042@compuserve.com> ex-IMP Mark Hughes <mhughes@pms144.pms.ford.com> ex-SSL Vickie Lloyd <vlloyd@infomail.com> ex-SMS Paul Sinatra <76510.2760@compuserve.com> ex-WCE Mark Weiher <msweiher@aol.com> ex-EKN Wade Wheaton <marilith1@aol.com> ex-FOE Eric Ziemer <ziemer@mcs.net> ex-FET GMs (either version) - -------------------- Steven Fairbrother <100255.130@compuserve.com> KJC Pete Dorman <rtgames@aol.com> RTG Thad Catone <rtgthad@aol.com> RTG Others - ------ Thomas Hudson <hudson@cs.unc.edu> Charles Meredith <74214.2743@compuserve.com> John Pyrich <pyrich@delphi.com> Mike Rosko <rhyssa@aol.com> Rich Skrenta <bse@pbm.com> Ben Swain <csc2bds@cabell.vcu.edu> ------------------------------ From: Jackmyster@aol.com Date: Wed, 16 Nov 1994 02:35:40 -0500 Subject: BSE: Re: BSE Digest V1 #14 Blackjack Morgan? Is that like a pirate that steals gum? Just kidding. "Orcastratited" the SSL/FET conflict? You give me too much credit, REALLY. I merely pointed out the ovbious fact that it was totally against the treaty between the GTT/SSL and even "if" the GTT wanted to give back the colony, they couldn't. If anyone was pulling any strings, it was Mike P. He got the treaty...he knew it...he just decided to change things...as usual. I enjoy reading the messages, although I cannot say I understand them all. I have not been in this 'Universe' before, and much of the news is new to me. I do not know of the relationships and who helps who; who fights who, but I am hoping I can contribute something to this universe soon. I am an explorer at heart; that's why I joined the MYR. Discovery is a goal and can be a path to success (at least I hope so). Good Fortune to my friends; dishonor to those who would enslave our females! Thain Monk for the Honor of the MYR! We do have some Space Probes, but I do not know if one of our colonies can build them, or if we purchased them. I can work out the deals for SP guns, as I controll the colony with that tech. The System Array was coded into the game, and work reasonably well. We built a couple and they are rather materiel intensive to operate. It has been Clove for quite a while, although in 29/192 it was GTT Agnello's Triumph. I don't have better dates right at hand but those printouts were handy. Hope this helps. Of course if you need to do some trading, SMS Canton is always ready and at your service...... Rick Burningham ------------------------------ From: steve668@dallas.relay.ucm.org Date: Fri, 11 Nov 1994 00:22:02 CST Subject: BSE: Ships Rick, I wasn't intending to say anything, cause Brad was half-joking...besides, there is only 1 DN (in FOE possession) which could be acquired in this manner, plus there is the Ghost DN.... the FOE DN I destroyed at the battle of Upreach (along with their fleet) which apparantly ABM chose to return en-masse because the players involved didn't bother to read in their rule book that I (as IMP and as an aff. in a state of war with the FOE) could react to their attack on the SMS. No sour grapes, it just means I get to destroy the ghost fleet a second time. Other than these, there aren't any others on the market... and the FOE would have to be convinced to part with 'em. Steve ------------------------------ From: steve668@dallas.relay.ucm.org Date: Fri, 11 Nov 1994 00:33:11 CST Subject: BSE: New Life for Old Ships Neil, Smaller ships have their place in the game. From the fast light scouts to the FF (although I think the FF should be scraped along with the HF...bad designs). In the new area, considering all the class-1 colonies that will spring up as it becomes established, turning loose a bunch of small cruisers with the firepower of a battleship will cause colonies to die rapidly. While the idea has merit... as a research thing, rather than an incorporated game mechanic... the concept is unbalanced. I do, however, agree that SF should be modified. I feel that there should be 2 types of SF: a bomber & a fighter. I think that the fighter should be allowed to intercept other fighters and bombers; I think the Navy types here would call it CAP (Combat Air Patrol). Perhaps the bomber would have the 50 factors and the fighter would remain the same, while the fighter might have 50 space-AA, and the bomber only 20 space-AA. Whatcha think? (yeah, I know...sounds like a good research project <g>).
