AG:stats testing From: twoods@blue.weeg.uiowa.edu (T. Woods) Date: Wed, 16 Nov 1994 16:43:23 +0000 I've decided to look into exactly what affect cunning and stamina have on gaining d/r and dp's (respectively). Also would be interested in the affect of cunning on gaining of wsps. Basically the idea is to see at what point total can you expect to stop gaining free points (excluding magical phenomena, talking about raises on own) with a particular level in a stat. For example *****Cunnning****** Mirn - 17 - topped out at 27 d/r Boran - 20 - topped out at 28 d/r Morin - 26 - topped out at 29 d/r (though gained 3 points 2 turns ago and gained another one last turn, so can't say for sure he's topped out). *****Stamina******* Mirn - 22 - topped out at 22 but Tharkan gave last several so can tell much from that Morin -21 - topped out at 18 (but only recently was stamina a priority so hasn't had 20+ for long and hasn't been in alot of combat so not sure if topped out). Boran - 31 -topped out at 27 (but gained another last turn so not sure if topped out). *****Cunning on wsp******* Mirn - 17 -27 wsp Boran -20-27 wsps Morin -26 -20 (though just started fighting recently so not a good indicator). As can be seen, there seems to be a linear relationship between the stats and the skills (something we all know). I would like to explore that relationship. What I would like is to get a VERY large sample for each category. I won't reveal who has what, but instead make a chart of the relevant stat versus skill points for each skill. I would make this chart available to all (through e-mail or AG). I think this would be invaluable. If you want your d/r, dp's, or wsps to go up just see at what level in cunning or stamina you would need to get the next point. A few rules. First there are some things that affect your chance to gain dp's. Your race and god in particular. I would need to know that to make a good comparison. For example, Boran is a dwarf and worships Ulrick so the point at which he tops out might be higher for the same stamina then for an elf not worshipping Ulrick (any elves out there with a 31 stamina :) ). I would probably include all the sample points in the charts but give some indication of possible abnormal affects (god, race) on the chart and will probably make several other charts for individual races and/or gods (depending on number of recipients). Also if you've stopped gaining points for free but have been gaining them from magical phenomena (or ep for wsp) then you can't say that is the level at which you've topped out. If you've gained some from magical phenomena and then gained some for free, then that's a legal value to submit because you're still gaining them for free. For example, Mirn has gained several of his last dp from Tharkan, so couldn't say that he topped out at 22. But if he gained another point next turn, then could say he topped out at 23. It would also be nice to know how long it's been since the person has gained a point. If the person is gaining things rapidly or recently (for example, Morin gaining d/r, Boran gaining dp) you can't be certain that the character has topped out. On the other hand if it's been 10 turns since the character gained in that skill, then it's a pretty good indication that it's topped out. I'm not sure how I would incorporate this data into the charts, but will think about that. Any and all suggestions would be welcomed. Thanks for any responses. Later, Todd Woods P.S. - It would also be nice to get any data from other players you might know. The larger the number the better idea we'll get of the exact relationship between stats and gaining of d/r, dp's, and wsps. Up
