SPQR: Primus Inter Pares From: Byron Farrow <FarrBG@phymat.bham.ac.uk> Date: Wed, 30 Nov 1994 18:50:31 +0000 Tonight sees the commercial launch of the PBM SPQR: Primus Inter Pares, Run by the company Interesting Times, this game is set in Republican Rome where you control a family, your gens, through the early roman economy, political system, wars against Gaul, Eturia and the rest of that Mob. The game uses an order system involving making one real month equal one game year and giving you one order per day of real time, so you can give returns once a week and have 7 orders to play with (orders can be stock- piled to a maximum of thirty) or every two weeks and get 14 orders or however you like. The game will cost about Three pounds a month and further details are obtainable from dbwake@cix.compulink.co.uk or 160 Beaumont Road, Bournville, Birmingham, UK. Although the (computer-moderated) PBM is playable by mail (and hand) it also playable by e-mail with the UUencoded returns being sent to you whenever you send in a return.
