I would suggest that RTG make one of two changes now: (if not both?) 1. Either lowering turn fees. (BSE has always been overpriced) 2. Bringing back "Fleet Turns" These would probably make the players happy until the new changes occur...othe rwise players might start having "ABM Flashbacks"... Just a thought from your friendly neighborhood Flagritz... A list of the new ships designs and configs. would also help. I would also be willing to "pay" for current copies of the TCA system maps. Same for the Fleet turns, we don't know exactly how they are going to work, so that's part of the upgrade as well. We will make those things available as sppn as they are ready. It's explained away by saying that ships are "refueled" during maintance, but this is really just a way to avoid trying to implement something. Consequently, I wante dto get everyone's opinion on implementing some type of fuel requirements in BSE. Below is a basic fuel proposal, followed by several things that could be added to make things more interesting. Please let us know what you think. BASIC: Ships would consume POWER for movement. Fuel tank capacity would need to be added to current ships. Fuel tank capacity could also be researched. Each MU spent on movement might consume 1 MU of POWER. POWER could be bought directly off colony markets. POSSIBLE ENHANCEMENTS 1. There might be a minimum fuel consumption, even when a ship doesn't move. 2. Fuel consumption might be partially based on the number and type of engines used. For instance, a ship with 50 thrust engines might consume 50 MUs of power for each TU spent moving. A ship with 7 Jump Engines might spend 140 MUs of power to jump. 3. Battles should guzzle fuel. This could be dove-tailed into the number of thrust engines, too. 4. The weight of equipment and cargo might also affect fuel consumption. The 1 MU/TU might be a base figure for an empty ship. Fuel consumption might increase proportionally to the ratio TOTAL WEIGHT OF SHIP (INCLUDING ALL HULLS, EQUIPMENT AND CARGO): TOTAL HULL WEIGHT (ONLY). Note that we don't want to force people to fuel up on every turn, so that fuel capacities will have to be based on how much of this is actually implemented. ADVANTAGES: 1. Gives starcaptains soemthing to spend their stellars on. 2. Greatly increases market activity, since EVERY starcaptain will have to purchase fuel. 3. Provides some colonies with a viable source of income. 4. Provides for many more shipping needs (fuel will need to be moved to where the ships want to buy it) 5. Provides a significant use for some traditionally useless minerals (such as Fossil Fuels and Collidium). 6. Adds an element of realism to the game. Increases the strategy needed to run a starship. 7. Helps the BSE economy. 8. Should help reduce some of the stockpiles of minerals we have. DISADVANTAGES: 1. Running a starship becomes somewhat more complicated (although thsi can be controlled to a great degree by choosing exactly how much of the above we want to incorporate into the game system). 2. Power sources would need to be developed (currently, I'd guess that most colonies only produce enough power to run their own factories). ------------------------------ End of BSE Digest V1 #17 ************************ To subscribe to bse-digest, send the command: subscribe bse-digest in the body of a message to "Majordomo@io.com".
