Chris, My personal favorite is the Yacht, for quick and dirty map, probe, & GPI. A single Yacht can finish a preliminary survey of most systems in 1-2 turns. If it's lost, no big deal, they're cheap and expendable..... and bloody fast. For a follow-up ship, i'm partial to the Survey Cruiser. It's big enough to mount weapons to defend itself, and yet it can still carry the necessary follow-up stuff (labs, small ground party, etc.) for the serious exploration of anything interesting that the Yacht turns up. Also, because of the speed, a yacht can even mount a tiny GP (not shuttle capable) just in case it turns up something REALLY interesting, so that it can land and do the preliminary stuff. The 75 Dreadnoughts that set sail last week are simply going on a training mission and will later be participating in the annual winter wargames. Their launch is purely coincidental with the incident involving the ITS Koenigin Luise. The incident is now in the hands of my capable ISS PD, of which alien relations is a responsibility. I should also point out that the rumors of what happened to the KZK (the last time a von Ludendorf died, Lt. Gustav von Ludendorf, ITS Kaiserin Maria), happening to the FGZ are also simply rumors. Strange rumors were flying from many different sources and we, Qumans, appreciate any effort to clear through the rubish and get to the heart of the matter. And no press release was made till I finish my investigation and learn exactly who shall be held responsible. It may be fixed now, but I'm still missing some mail, so I can't be sure. The goos news is, though, that at least some of it is making it to me. In fact, some of today's mail has gotten to me, so maybe I'll be fully back on line soon. Please don't re-send anything. That'll just get teh SMTP Server even more upset, and it'll probably start sending my e-mail via USPS. Most of the early Transhole exploration was done using a destroyer or a fast freighter. Surveyors were too slow, and yachts and corvettes were too small. The faster the better, but yachts are just too small, they can't carry enough probes. They're great if you have a point of re-supply and a system map, but otherwise ...... "Speed is very nice" he said, after running away from the first Catrark ship sighted. There is probably no need to carry any weapons - you'll be outgunned by anything out there, so why try to fight? ------------------------------ From: Phil Krauskopf <PKRAUSKOPF@FALCON.AAMRL.WPAFB.AF.MIL> Date: Mon, 12 Dec 1994 15:30:38 -0500 Subject: BSE: Trophies Brad, Of course you can take your choice.
