As for it leading to less diversity in the game I really doubt this will happen - if you are the only that can build a particular class of ship you'll be less likely to trade it to another affiliation or colony since if you have a competitor you won't be able to artifically inflat the price charged for the ship or upgrade - while trade will happen in some cases I doubt they will be as common as folks are fearing (another option for restriction trading of shipbuilding tech and other tech for that matter is to make it cost APPs, scale toward the current ally status i.e. it costs less to trade to a historical ally then to a neutral and it can't be traded to enemies, it should also cost less to trade the tech [as permanent tech] to a colony then to an affiliation). As for only a few types of ships being wanted - the rank changes should change that a bit, but it's a problem with the game and the former mismanagement of it - right now I say that about 70% of the existing ship classes are worthless and give very little value for real world dollar to run so nobody in their right mind wants to run them. Frankly since there is no longer a limit on the number of ship classes in the game, I think all of the existing shipbuilding affiliations should be allowed to redesign the ships they build to be more usable, plus 1 or 2 new designs to fill in the blanks in the rank size limits. While currently V'Ril T'bak has the title of Ataman, he no longer has the blessing or respect of the Rada. (Basically, he's been impeached, he just doesn't know it yet...) There have been some very "curious" actions going on for the past few weeks, including some "lies" that he has been perpetrating regarding the soon to be "new" Ataman. As I stated earlier, his final action was clearly all Den of Earth could take. However, it is interesting to see who is still listening to this misplaced Ruler. As for the ITS's lost freighter. I will withhold any statements until the IMPs finish their "investigation"....(I didn't say I would explain what happened, I merely pointed out that you did not ask. And since when is the QSN "hiding" behind the IMPs arm?? "Protect us from the RIP..." right.) But as a Imperially "protected" race, we are concerned about any actions which may affect the protection which the Imperials may give us. Of course, if the plan to allow affliations to assume "control" of systems in the Periphery is implemented, we will take a much more active approach to our defense. The QSN is not a large military power and never claimed to be such. We have a small fleet to ensure protection of our home system which we have control of. We are mainly just a trading/merchant race who develop goods open to all. IE the Cargo Master. Of course, we have factions of our military who would like to put us on the path of war, but we believe these actions are from the past. We are open to all who like to join our confederation and will protect our members. If pushed, we may be able to respond in kind with force. As to my comments about the RIP, the QSN has suffered losses to the RIP along with the other affliations in the Periphery so our concern is geniune. ------------------------------ End of BSE Digest V1 #32 ************************ To subscribe to bse-digest, send the command: subscribe bse-digest in the body of a message to "Majordomo@io.com".
