Issue # 95-01 Electronic version, message 1 of 2 This message contains news of ANCIENT EMPIRES; the following message carries news of ONE TRUE FAITH. Sorry for the delays this month; December has been "interesting" - some good, some bad but all distracting. Things are back on schedule now. Slatra joins Kenday - The rest of Kenday united with Slatra to form a larger empire. Kenday has also acquired 3 more villages in Eton. Rosel's support in Yealin grows - The village of Tieka in Yealin joined the pro-Rosel revolt there. Thorta falls into anarchy as people oppose Schloss - The King of Thorta signed a treaty merging his country with Schloss; widespread revolt followed as Thorta's territorial barons refused to go along with the treaty. Schloss controls the capital, Venara, and two other villages. Royal elopement and scandal topple Monolan government - Prince Preston of Monola eloped with Princess Dian of Gython following his father's refusal of Gython's marriage offer. The King of Monola disinherited his son, but supporters of the prince stormed the palace and imprisoned the King. Preston now heads a pro-Gython government in Monola. Gython's influence grows in wake of Monolan coup - Five villages in Bodan and one in Ardic petitioned for membership in the growing Gython Empire. Overview of territorial expansion - Following are the nations that have expanded their territories, with their holdings: ATARO owns all of Hioken. GYTHON owns all of Monola, two villages in Ardic and five in Bodan. KENDAY owns five villages in Eton and five in Slatra. ROSEL owns two villages in Yealin and one in Jurong. SCHLOSS owns all of Ezak, all of Hopran, and the capital and two villages in Thorta. Antediluvian Times (Game #2 of Ancient Empires) Potter liberated by Canan forces - Facing 10 to 1 odds, the commander of Rodetan's forces at Potter, Cana surrendered his fort and troops to Cana. Royal wedding links Horsel to Sumatray - The wedding of Emperor Mauritius du Saxe, Emperor of Sumatray and Protector of Egham to Princess Margaret Ross of Horsel, leader of a reformist rebel movement against her father the King, was held with great splendor and ceremony. Almost 5,000 Sumatrayan warriors were knighted in a mass ceremony of investiture, and promised land grants in Horsel when the current ruler, Margaret's father, is overthrown. During the ceremony the barons of four villages in Tasmal swore fealty to the royal couple. Maritime disasters claim two galleys - In unrelated incidents, a Sumatrayan round galley and a Midodan round galley struck rocks or reefs and sank while trying to get in close to shore, in shallow and treacherous waters. Although many ships have experienced minor loss of life or cargo, these are the first entire ships lost while trying to unload or load in locations without proper port facilities. Eton falling to Rhodes - After several unsuccessful attempts to gain diplomatic influence in Eton, Rhodes finally began achieving impressive results as five villages in that country declared their allegiance to Rhodes. Rhodian colony idea abandoned - It was revealed today that a small inhabited island was found several hundred miles east of Rhodes, further than anyone else had explored. The discovery was kept secret for months while Rhodes studied the possibilities of exploiting the new land. The idea was finally given up as hopeless; the natives are primitive and unremittingly hostile, the land is barren and without mineral wealth, and the seas are too dangerous to permit reliable communication. The Rhodian Maritime Institute (and the G.M.) believe that there is no exploitable land outside the known world. (continued next post) Up
