Quest Digest 9/1/95 From: ">>-Josh->" <J.P.Gallagher@durham.ac.uk> Date: Mon, 09 Jan 1995 10:44:59 +0000 Here it is again, the Quest Digest, a semi-regular collection of posts that goes out to a quest mailing list. If you want to be part of this list, contact me at the address above. The material is written for the mailing list and looks a little odd in a newsgroup so please bear this in mind. -----------------===================+====================---------------- JPG> Hello again everyone, and welcome to the two new additions for this issue. I have recieved precious little material as yet, but many people are still on Christmas holidays (I believe Coventry are back today?) so this is to be expected. On with the messages; ------------------------------------------------------------------------- From Martin Lind Jans, new to the list today; MJL> I'm at the moment developing a programming for mapping Kharne, which I could send to the group when I'm finished. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- From Rogerio Fung; RF> Concerning the starting money for official alliances to buy a shop, I dont think its really that high....50000for 2nd HQ are quite plausible, if we dont want to see the whole island with private shops, as this would imply a fast expansion for the alliances, and I dont think it would be very good.Lets face it, shops shouldnt open every turn...expansion should have a rate of 13-15 turns for an average alliance of 10 members>50000/10=5000gps each member would have to give 5000gps in 13-15 turns. I think its a reasonable amount, but then others might not think this way, so I would say a minimum of 30000gps... RF> About Maximus question on transfers using banks... RF> KJC made it lkie this so as to prevent people from starting several parties and then simply transfering the money to their original one... BUT! I too think bank transfers should be allowable. It could be done that aftera certain number of turns, the possibility of using bank transfers would be granted to parties, as then, it would have been prooved that the refered party was here to play...15 turns would be a reasonable time... RF> Oh, just would like to compliement Chris for her very well written newsletter. I really enjoyed reading it, unlike others, hers had more than just messages...real good..keep the good work! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- JPG> I have a few points to add myself; about the mage learning spells. I hope someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that there is a certain chance of learning the spell once you have te skill to do so, and so there is still a possibility that the spell won't be learnt. I can only presume that there is a minimum skill and that the chance to learn it increases as your skill increases. JPG> The mapping program would be quite useful if you can get it working Martin; we have quite a lot of map for game 11, but it is all on paper at the moment. Coding it in would be a nightmare. Anyu chance of a scanning option? JPG> How close are the official alliances from operation Steve? I would just like to add my support for existing alliances entering at a cheaper rate. I suppose I am a bit biased, but its only fair! Alliances earn respect over time, and money can't suddenly buy that respect. JPG> Lastly, for anyone that's interested, I did kill that Dark Oak in one battle. Enchant weapons on three people, a couple of magic darts and a blight (Ythcal's touch didn't work). I thought I got it planned pretty well! Quite easy really for 960 gp a character. JPG> I will look forward to more contributions as people return from holiday, but until next time happy questing! >>-Josh-> "...All I do is keep the beat, and bad company..." Up
