Movie Mogul From: jmclennan@trashcity.org (Jim McLennan) Date: Tue, 17 Jan 1995 00:24:19 +0000 Been lurking here for a while, reading about people's favoured games, so thought I'd drop in some notes on one called "Movie Mogul", which I hadn't seen discussed, and is probably the best one I'm in right now. It's a tad different from the usual, in that you take the role of a Hollywood producer. Each turn, you submit a plan for a film, consisting of a synopsis, budget breakdown and cast/crew list. Depending on various factors (I'm still working them out, two years in!), the film will be a success or, er, otherwise. You get back a results sheet detailing how your selected people fared, together with details on the other films submitted that turn. How you "win" is up to you: you can go for big box-office, or try to make critically-acclaimed movies - the best performances in each turn are nominated for the MM equivalent of Oscars(tm!), with voting for the awards done by the other players. It's very much a game for those with imagination; it's a challenge to come up with a new and inventive idea each (fortnightly) turn. You also have to battle the other players for "hot" stars, by out-bidding them; Quentin Tarantino is much in demand these days! Cost varies, depending on the length of synopsis you submit, and various other factors, but it works out round about three pounds per turn. I like the game a lot - but my only connection with it is as a player! If you want more info, get in touch, either with me, or direct from the GM: Andrew Perry, 55 Martley Rd, Worcester, WR2 6HG. Start-up is a fiver, including your first turn, cheeuqes made payable to Andrew Perry. Foreign players are welcome.
