The Alliance for Brutal Subjugation, Torture And Intense Narcissism (ABSTAIN for short) has already claimed Komarken. The thirteen members (nice number, huh?) of the alliance deeply resent your statements as we intend to pillage the area mercilessly, leaving the bodies of any who oppose us in fetid, fecund, festering piles as a monument to their fatuous folly (I just love alliteration, especially when its redundant). One of the members of ABSTAIN, the glorious Sark de Sombreville, was heard to say "I hope they resist, that way we can make them suffer more" (supply your own french accent). Hmm, maybe they have jumped the gun, but if they can make it work - then good for them...however, remember these points : Everyone is scared they're gonna get decked. If anyone starts causing trouble, everyone else will probably team up on them (because they cause the biggest threat). If you cause no trouble, you will probably get none! Some people obviously played Atlantis 1, and some (like me) are eagerly awaiting their first turn. I imagine that most people won't risk their whole factionin a couple of scraps at the beginning - it's a waste of money and study time. Good luck friends! Jon. Consolidated Trading and Distribution would like to offer the services of banking, venture capital investment and securities to the other lords of Atlantis. To do this, we will need help, as banking at minimum requires: 1. A substantial capital reserve. 2. A strong base of operations in a dangerous world. 3. A strong military force to enforce the repayment of loans, etc. 4. The confidence of its investors. The capital reserve is CT&D's responsibility, but in order to create it, strong partners who could bring a well-designed military force to the table would be required, and in time other investors would become crucial. Services we could offer: 1. Lending money at reasonable rates. 2. Providing a secure place to store your money against that war, or bandit raid, or attack of a creature when having your total reserve on hand might be a liability. 3. Direct investment in large projects, such as the creation of merchant fleets, armies, navies, etc. 4. Economic enhancement of Atlantis. 5. A storehouse of wealth to be used to counteract the inevitable tyrant who will arise, and a means of counterbalancing force with wealth in an efficient, well-centralized fashion. If these ideas appeal to you, let me know. [and so on] Anders, Isn't it a _tad_ early to start claiming territory, especially cities with heavily armed NPC guards? Let's not get in the habit of landgrabbing, especially when not one person has seen the outside of Atlantis city. Otherwise, we are going to get a rash of people saying that they claim 10 hexes somewhere around Abernethy or whatever. Perhaps we could all agree that no one will claim what they can't hold--at least until they _want_ to start a fight! :^) Let's hear it for peace and harmony (at least until there's some call for competition). Obviously, this makes it easier for players to manage mail. Agreed. I love to get mail as much as the next guy. But this sudden barrage is just a bit rediculous! :-) > On the other hand, if you have an opinion about game rules and mechanics, then > I say aim at the mailing list and let fly. Actually, I believe mechanics might better be held on the design list Geoff mentioned in an earlier note.
