This may be useful, but it may also come naturally out of the game
balance.  Presumably, assassinations will take place only if someone
pays for them, and presumably people will only pay for assassinations
if someone has offended them.  So someone without the ability to defend
himself better not offend someone who can afford an assassination.

Presumably, a mage powerful enough to pose a threat to a major trader
or warrior would also be able to defend himself.  If there is no way to
do so, then I would consider this lack a significant design flaw.

In general, I suggest that assassin characters charge a lot for their
services, or _they_ will be targets, since cheap assassinations mean
that everyone is at risk, and therefore everyone will consider assassins
as immediate threats.  There are other interesting implications of an
assassin-based strategy, which I'll leave people to think about.

It remains to be seen if service-based factions such as assassin guilds
can be supported using only the GIVE order for transactions.  It will
be interesting to see how this comes out in play-test.  Since this is
probably how many mages will make their money, it is a significant issue.

Generally good ideas, but plate armor is useless against assassins (you
don't wear it to bed ;). Also, I really am not sure how good a sword is to
a mage.

I think the better way is to have in the same place a leader with a high
observation skill, that will prevent the assasain from act.

Greetings,

I am just outside of Sledmere and would like to hear from the factions
   that have moved in this direction.  Now that the first turn is over
   (and all the non-playing wimps have been weeded out) it is time to begin
   serious alliance discussions.

I've been heading in a Northerly direction. As you will have seen from
my posting in the Atlantis Times, I'm seeking a good place to set up a
University, all the while exploring in a northerly direction. I'm
currently in Abernethy.

I must have missed the announcement about the NW alliance, so I do not
know about your aims. Mine are outlined in the Atlantis Times ad, so
if you feel that they are compatible with yours, I'd be happy to join
you. As I'm more interested in knowledge than fighting, I would like
to specialise to either Trading or Magic as soon as I've had time to
set up the University.
