If the former attempting to form a small unit in a crowded field is less likely to succeed [your pro-ration could work out to less than 1] than an attempt to form a large unit with the intent of splitting it up the next turn. -- Matthew Taylor matthew@clark.net ---------------------------------------------------------- From: "Matthew S. Make sure that when you read through the items wanted and items for sale lines that you don't confuse them. My units that attempted to purchase items from the wanted list weren't able to get them... imagine that! -- Any views I express are probably my own... Nobody else is willing to let me speak for them! It could mesh well with PILLAGE or TAX--I would have it lean more toward PILLAGE. It might be necessary to assign a minimum cost to conscript, however--say, $10 per man?, to reflect the initial and basic provisioning of the conscripts (however paltry it may be). ---------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 25 Jan 95 11:01 GMT From: Jochen Theis <J.Theis@pmms.cam.ac.uk> Subject: Atlantis: RE: The Gathering Dear Magma, I suppose that my current aim to set up a University is in the spirit of your Gathering. I'm currently in Abernethy and will move to Kashmar, where the Kashmar alliance has offered to support my efforts. I shall specialise in trade and will then apply myself to providing the necessary infrastructure (buildings, teachers, etc.) for the University. If that qualifies me to join the Gathering, I'd be happy to do so. I'm striving for free exchange of information, skills and ideas, and any contacts your gathering can establish to fulfill these goals would be most welcome. Atlantis City, 15.2.0001 I am only modest-honest man desiring nothing but to live in peace and quiet. But God came to me and said: "Wake up, Saint Foufeau, you modest-honest, and found The Only Church Which Can Bring Peace and Love to Atlantis. People are good in principal. Of course they behave like beasts, but it is problem of communication only. They hesitate to say friendly (and also hostile) word each other ..." So, hear my voice ! I feel friendly to everybody. Moreover, maybe you are also modest and you want to say something, or give a gift, or obtain money *anonymously*, unrecognized. In this case, ask me, Saint Foufeau the modest-honest. I will forward immediately any message (only without headers) - I will also tell the answer. I'm afraid in the case of handing over of an item we cannot avoid one month delay. Just write to "maxera@fzu.cz" name (or pseudonym) of the receiver and GIVE me the item (now I am FACTION 117 NEW 1). Receiver must have declared me friendly. I hope I will deserve following reward (from sender): 5$ for message min(5$, 3% of price of the item) for gift I believe in honesty and good memory of your characters (not neceserily persons). Whoever would be interested in and will pay me 150$, he will obtain list of moral values of The Only Church (in alphabetical order). Note: Avoid any harm for our clients is there on the first place. Jon writes :- Don't forget guys that every adventurer in the universe has just descended upon one city at once. *of course* there isn't going to be enough to go around - the city wasn't designed to have a sudden huge increase in demand. Whilst a bidding system might be realistic, it would also further complicate the complicated rules. When we've all spread out, the players will first be divided roughly into six groups around the major cities. I assume there will be other market-places as well as those, and we'll all soon find a small place to call home with a localto relax in, a marketplace all to ourselves, and a bunch of locals to 'interact' with. At least this way everyone is in the same boat. Give it a little time - this game is going to take huge time spans to play, anyhow! regards, Jon. ---------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 25 Jan 1995 11:34:48 -0500 From: mosherj@minerva.cis.yale.edu (Joshua Mosher) Subject: Re: Atlantis: RE: The Gathering At 6:01 AM 1/25/95, Jochen Theis wrote: >Dear Magma, > I don't know if this was on purpose, but if you are writing something that affects only one other player, please don't send it on the players list. Is this > prorated by total skill levels attempting to entertain if supply exceeds the > money available? What is the difference between the "Demand" and the "Money > available"? hmm... I'll try my luck on giving you an example... The region you are in has $320 available entertainment You have a unit with entertain: Morkov's Minstrels (1328) 20 High Elves, Skill: Entertain 1. If you were alone in the region, you would gain all $320 of what was available. If there was someone else in the region, say: The Orchistra (516) 5 Leaders, Skills: Entertain 3, <... blah ...> The supply of entertainment would be as follows: Minstrels supply = 20 elves X lvl 1 in entertain X $20 = $400 Orchistra supply = 5 ldrs X Lvl 3 in entertain X $20 = $300 Add this up, $400 + $300 = $700 of supply... Each unit will then get (320/700)*(their supply) silver that month. i.e. both units get the same percentage of what they offer...
