Is anyone keeping a rules errata? I usually note what rules changes/errors that come up in atl-players, but since I delete atlantis mail every day, I wonder if I haven't lost some important information. A monthly errata might be useful. PILE UP IN SLEDMERE The city of Sledmere, once a quiet backwater of murderous Vikings now booms in the wake of a tremendous influx of fortune hunters, pirates, an assassin (in training) and H. Humbolts Gathering. This once Provincial Port, nestled in the verdant forsets of Nork (who named these places) seems destined for exciting times. With the promise of many major colleges of learning, groundstones already being purchased (BUY BUY BUY) and a ready supply of timber for a fleet, Sledemere seems certain to become the Birmingham of Atlantis. Unless Faction(124), have their way, this faction who once described everyone else as WIMPS are now demanding that anyone who enters (or leaves) Sledmere without their permission shall be SPANKED. Do i smell trouble, will someone closer to the scene send a special (anonymous) report next week??? I have put out in my ftp site [ftp@clark.net ftp/pub/matthew/] three alternate versions of the case headed table of contents enhanced rules I have earlier discussed. You will find atl-rules.doc [MS Word for Windows 6.0], atl-wp51.doc [Word Perfect 5.1 for dos], atl-wd3x.doc [MS Word for dos versions 3x - 5x] and atl-mw51.mcw [MS Word for Macintosh 5.1]. Please grap them as you like, and let me know how they look. I can not read the latter 3 as I only have MS Word for Windows 6.0. The case heading should be good, I am not certain that the TOC will work, but it should be fixable by your own application. For those who asked, the margins on my version are, in inches, top 1, bottom 1, left 1.25, right 1.25, gutter .5, header & fotter .5. The base font is times new roman 10, but the title and three levels of headers are in larger fonts, and some of the tables are in smaller fonts. If you find typos or ommissions, please call them to my attention at my below address - the list probably does not want to here about it. Note that Geoff has sanctioned my offering, but not the contents. I have added the recent clarifications from Geoff and added a table or two, but that is about it for changes. Enjoy. If you are overcome with gratitude you can always instruct geoff to forward your times silver credit to me :) -- Matthew Taylor matthew@clark.net ---------------------------------------------------------- From: "Matthew S. People hook up to the internet through all sorts of methods, from all sorts of access-suppliers, and on all sorts of computer platforms. Many, if not most, of us do not have the kind of access and computing power one gets at a (taxpayer subsidized) .edu account, and often don't have any choice as to what kind of mailer program we can run. That's why we try to use the "Altantis" prefix in the subject line; so that everyone can separate out the Altantis mail. ---------------------------------------------------------- From: Geoff Dunbar <atlantis@rahul.net> Subject: Atlantis 2.0: atl-players list Date: Sun, 29 Jan 95 23:38:58 -0800 This is a weekly posting for the atl-players mailing list. This list is meant for all players in the Atlantis 2.0. Mail sent to this list should be appropriate for all players of Atlantis 2.0. Rules questions should probably be sent to the moderator (atlantis@rahul.net), he can then forward the question and answer to the list. Role-playing is appropriate, but faction-to-faction email should not be sent to the list. To send mail to everyone on this list, send mail to: atl-players@tango.rahul.net Please include the word 'Atlantis' in your Subject line, so the other recipients of the list can identify your message. If you wish to be taken off of this list, just let me know, at atlantis@rahul.net. You do not need to be on this list to play Atlantis 2.0. ---------------------------------------------------------- From: "J.P. Harvey" <u3jph@csc.liv.ac.uk> Subject: ATLANTIS Date: Mon, 30 Jan 1995 12:06:37 +0000 (GMT) Dear all, Just had this Idea... To dam up the flow of mail without restricting content, why don't we mutually agree only to send ONE piece of mail each to the list PER DAY. I, like several others here, am guilty of multiple postings several times a week, and I realise that although I like talking to talk too much, some of you might not appreciate it. Players could now read/junk (delete as applicable) their mail, and formulate all the replies that need to go to the whole list into one message. This would take a little longer and produce longer messages, but if we all did it, the reduced mail load should more than make up the time. To put my money where my mouth is, and to no-doubt please you all, I'll do just that myself - limit myself to one load of rambling per day. until tomorrow... Date: Mon, 30 Jan 1995 10:01:52 -0500 (EST) To all in Kashmar and Dezhou: As a war faction, I am announcing my intention to establish control of hex (2,18), nearby Kashmar. I will say now that this hex is a barren hunk of rock with few inhabitants and poor resources, but, dammit, it's going to be MY barren hunk of rock! As my units are the first to have entered this hex (along with unit 1082 -- the owner of which is free to contact me if he wishes to discuss this claim; I would be glad to recognize this person's claim to another hex), and because I've a rather sizable expedition of Free Companions ready to move in from Kashmar, I feel that my claim is quite justified and I plan on moving into this area in force in order to tax the daylights out of the pitiful inhabitants of this hex. I have no desire for conflict with anyone else, and thus I am announcing my claim to the world so no one else makes plans involving taxing (2,18). I'm not planning on barring passage through this hex to anyone, and in fact if some trade faction is interested contracting their services with me in this hex, I'm open to offers. I am also planning on maintaining some operations in Kashmar as well, and anyone wishing to discuss cooperation in Kashmar is welcome to contact me. the Captain ---------------------------------------------------------- From: Geoff Dunbar <atlantis@rahul.net> Subject: Atlantis 2.0 question Date: Mon, 30 Jan 95 08:52:08 -0800 >Is there a way to tell if a faction is allied to you? E.g. a unit which knows Lumberjacking tries to STUDY COMBAT (useful in war situations!!!) Does the unit 'forget' the previous skill and gain [30] days of study in the new one? (or [60] if there's a teacher around) Or the command simply fails? Johnson" <Brent.Johnson@cle.ab.com> Subject: Atlantis 2: uncultured Atlanteans One of my units (the Turing Players) executed an ENTERTAIN order in Atlantis City during Turn 2. I got no silver for this endeavor. Not ONE measly piece of silver out of the 60 I would have gotten in the absence of competition. It's hard for me to believe that: 1. The entertainment competition was so intense that a demand of $600 represented less than one-sixtieth of the supply. (Were there *really* more than 1800 entertainers in Atlantis City plying their trade last turn?) 2. My unit's syntax was wrong. (All you gotta say is "ENTERTAIN". for Pete's sake - and the unit's previous GIVE order got executed correctly.) 3. The Turing Players are incompetent. (Their skill is attested to in the turn report.) I am left with only two explanations: 1. The inhabitants of Atlantis are too uncultured to appreciate high-quality serious entertainment, and wasted all their entertainment dollars on vulgar amateurish stuff like Acrobatty and the Jokomicalaughunny Buffoons. 2. There is a BUG in the CODE! Did anyone out there get any entertainment income? << Brent (faction 32) ---------------------------------------------------------- From: Geoff Dunbar <atlantis@rahul.net> Subject: Atlantis 2.0: Common Mistakes Date: Mon, 30 Jan 95 09:51:28 -0800 Here is a list of some common mistakes that people have made in the first few turns of Atlantis. 1) Use the correct subject line when submitting orders. Subject: orders <faction number> 2) The first line of your orders should be #ATLANTIS <faction number> and not # ATLANTIS <faction number> 3) Make sure all of your orders are given by a unit. 4) Atlantis City is very crowded; If you try to buy something, you may not get it. 5) Use CLAIM to get your unclaimed gold. 6) Make sure you specify an alias when forming a new unit. There is an extensive section on how to do this in the rules, under the FORM order. 7) Make sure you always have the latest edition of the rules. Older copies have some confusing errors and misinformation in them. Up
