Date: Fri, 27 Jan 1995 12:39:17 +0000 (GMT) Hi, could you change one sort of building into another, eg go inside a tower and issue the 'build fort' order? Also, does destroying a building yeild any stone? Will it say on the description in your report the condition of any buildings in the area ( eg fort of doom, 20 units complete, or something) I am wondering if a leader with high level in building could construct siege engines. Don't laugh - it says in the rules that at high skill levels, certain "bonus abilities" may appear. This could be one. The siege engine could counterract the +2 defense for being in a building in some way. Just thought I'd ask! Why would you think this? No other skill works exponentially (well, combat _comparisons_ do -- but no "producing" type skill does). An increase of one skill level allows you to get one more of something, not double what you made before. I think that a faction of any type should be allowed to have one of any other type. In other words, a War faction should be able to produce in at least one region, and have one magician. This is mostly evidant with magicians, I don't see why a faction can't have a magician if it is at war. Also, can you "trade" magicians? I.e. If I have a magicician, and I want to become a war faction...do I just lose that faction? Thanks. -- Before pissing someone off, ask yourself: "Is my total mass greater than his?" I can't believe all teh useless mail i'm getting from this atlantis mailling list. Its like 50 messages a day or something. The atlantis game looks as if it will be great but I can do without the mail. I think it's use should be certainly restricted to announceing bugs and games updates and not all this alliance shit. I trash 90% of all the alliance mail I get, don't tell me I'm alone in this. If you want a contact or to form an alliance put an add in the Times and take it from there. all i've got to say is "STOP IT" This mailing list should be renamed "Bandwidth City".>:-!(this particular smiley is very pissed off)... I think that there a lot of 'spam' mail on this list which could be easily handled by Times or via private emails (such as 'I like your idea, could I get more info?'). I thought that _this_ list is for informing players what's new in code, answering questions related to orders etc., not RPing list.. I don't like those RP mails going here, 'coz it's taking away all that fun I'd have exploring Atlantis and its people (factions etc..). I prefer getting info about factions and alliances directly from players, when I meet their units.., or if I've some units in cities, form Times. How could I make an alliance with somebody I've never seen (in world of Atlantis) or even heard of? Hmmm, if it will go on, I think I'll suggest definig purpose of this mailing list(exact, fe: to solve question like 'How do I use command XXX?', upgrade ideas etc, RPing.. ) and maybe even set some rules for incoming mail... Who will break them (knowing what's she/he doing) will be removed or whatever.. A little bit upset Vlad. P.S. :this mail is _also_ spam mail! I'm sorry I sent it, but ... ---------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri, 27 Jan 1995 14:07:28 -1812 From: bartlett@dorsai.dorsai.org (Chris Bartlett) Subject: Atl: Buying from cities I like the idea of a sealed bid auction for buying and selling to markets. This is, after all, what we will probably do for player-player transactions, whether or not the game supportsw it with a specific game mechanic. Chris ---------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri, 27 Jan 1995 14:03:19 -1812 From: bartlett@dorsai.dorsai.org (Chris Bartlett) Subject: Atl: list and Times There has been some grumbling about role-playing on the player list. I have a proposed solution. Since most people who use the list do so because the Times only comes out once a week, would it be possible to make the times come out more than once a week? If so, one could post an article there, with some reasonable hope of a timely response. I don't know how much work Geoff has to do to put the times together, so this may be an unrealistic approach. This would also probably reduce the size of the Times, which would not be a bad thing, and significantly reduce the traffic on this list. Who will break them (knowing what's she/he >doing) will be removed or whatever.. Well, this has been dealt with before, and Geoff has said that roleplaying _is_ appropriate here. I think this is a legitimate activity, since it fulfills a significant purpose (sometimes you don't want to wait for the Times). Some things are _not_ appropriate such as upgrade ideas, which belong in the design list, and direct roleplaying communication between players that is not of general interest, which belongs in personal email. But please everyone don't stomp on everyone for playing the game. That is what this list is for, just like all the other parts of the game. If you are getting upset by what you consider spam, unsubscribe. If you still want to look for bug reports, read the digest. This is a play test and this list should be just as subject to scrutiny and suggestion as any other aspect of the game. With all the imaginative and creative people on this list there must be someone who sees a way to find a middle ground between unrestrained ramblings and discussion only.
