I prefer a more informal method.  To me, heraldry should make a strong
personal statement that other players are going to clearly understand.  My
NIC3 heraldry is "A lone eye above crossed swords on a deep red background".
This adequately reflects my position, which is a mercenary position, intent
upon building large armies and wreaking havoc on any and all, whose characters
are all Seers.  And you can visualize the image, too.

On the other hand, you can have fun with it.  My close ally is a Heroic
position with the characters "Ren" and "Stimpy".  His heraldry is
"A Large Mauve Furball".  You don't really want to try to visualize his
heraldry...
