This seems to be the best use of this email group .. in-character raging, plotting, boasting and info sharing by a variety of interesting folk ranging from sly merchant traders to meglamaniac alien dictators. When it crosses the line so that a real world personality feels compelled (justified or not) to respond directly with a flame .. well as we are all a pretty verbal bunch, the brushfires can rage for weeks to everyone's detriment. Hopefully the conflagration can be stopped before that point. +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ The following sums up my understanding of the current situation. Since it is coming from a merchant trader of my repute, you know it is impartial :-) A Quman ship on a scouting mission jumped directly into some sort of meteor shower, which knocked out all engines, sensors and the subspace radio. After trying to raise her for some (as yet undermined) length of time, Lord Den assumed she was deliberately violating FGZ space. He(?) then blasted the derilict out of the sky and, (FGZ politics being what they are) appears to be using the opportunity to proclaim a great military victory. The Qumans (myself included) are considerably upset at what we regard as an extremely unfriendly act, whether or not it can be legally justified. As a result, several thousand civilians, a few starship captains, and possibly a colony governor or two are going to bite the big one. More as the situation develops... full report at 11. Hoffa, IMP To: Lord Stew Krieger, EEM Da boss is busy arranging an escort battalion for IMP Gen. Burton (IMP 2nd Armor Div.) to attend the SMS victory ceremony at SMS Pittsburg, so i'll deal wid your question. We got a visa for IMP ships only. Youse company types want one, you go gets one youselves. Since the Draconian sector is a desert, and the ROC are here to spend money, not to sell, all companies will benefit from their havin a visa. Or are ya sayin that the ROC shouldn't be permitted to buy from any company except the EEM? Now, ya says that no company ship is permitted to travel to the Draconian sector. It just ain't true. All comppanies can travel there. How safe it is to do so, depends on each company's boss and board of directors, and how well the negotiates wid the ROC. Ya gots to know when ta be guvment and when not ta be. The layout of the Draconian sector is exactly the same as the UK game. Seems ABM got lazy when they sent the stuff to KJC. The map of Adamski I recieved showed a jump connection to Mattalot (it exists in the UK game, connected to Adamski), but when I called RTG to question this (one IMP player is formerly from the Varient, and he told me that Mattalot didn't exist), RTG checked their data and found that *NO* jump connection existed. Seems ABM sent RTG the maps for the UK game. > are...companies welcome on the other side? Tuff question. OOC, I know that many affil. ranging from the QSN to the WCE to some companies have already negotiated with the ROC. Whether or not the SMS was one, I don't recollect. I can say that I found the ROC PD & APD very congenial (nothing like the pirates/warmongers story posted here and on CIS some months ago). Both seemed very helpful and interested in trade for the mutual benefit of all. If your company hasn't yet talked with them, do so... I think you'll find your company welcomed there. Now... on the otherhand, a warning should be made. For many years, the players in the Draconian sector have been bored sh*tless. It was told to me by the ROC APD (and confirmed by my own IMP player) that once they were so bored that they even asked ABM to magically create a fleet of enemy ships for them to fight. Some of them might look upon the influx of new ships as something to play with. I doubt it, because if they want real excitement, they can come into the main game and tangle with the big boys (their 33 hulls vs. say a 300 hull FGZ BS or some other capital warship)... besides I think they'll find the newness of the Periphery a refreshing change from the Draconian sector. Since the Draconian sector is pretty barren, and since they lack most technologies we've all taken for granted, each company has something to offer them. In your case, the SMS has rare ores to sell and GPI scramblers. The EEM has ships, the USS has their robotic toys (bzzzzzzzzz ;) ), the SSL & FET have their drug specialties (and the SSL can also offer the Roadshow to boost ROC colony morale), etc, etc,. I think you'll probably find yourselves welcome. S. I find that to be a remarkably benign view of The Empire. I, for one, have never heard of the rule of Emperor Jasil as being particularly enlightened. The Emperor acts in self-interest, and his underlings follow his shining example. In the Inner Empire, the power of the companies is proportionate to the size of the bribes that they feed the Imperial family. Do you expect different behavior on the frontiers? If you want a Democracy, stage a revolution. Why do you think I fled the politics of the Inner Empire and Periphery to establish a true Marxist government in the Transhole? --MacBeth (former director, WCE) (Currently in retirement at my beach estate on the North Coast of Abigone, Lemke system.) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 10 Feb 1995 13:57:42 -0700 (MST) From: Cojran Michael <cojran@ucsub.Colorado.EDU> To: BSE-L@consensus.com Cc: Beyond the Stellar Empire Discussion List <BSE-L@consensus.com> Subject: Re: BSE-L digest 17 Message-ID: <Pine.SOL.3.91.950210135449.17696A-100000@ucsub.Colorado.EDU> Gen. of the 2nd Armored Div?
