EJ>Maybe we could make a list of the silliest group names seen, there is / was a group in game 10 called TIAN TOST (tea and toast) and another I have seen in another game called Didthathurt,Ihopeso. > I *think* that the more you offer the better their overall > stats are - of course I'm probably wrong and going to look stupid for > offering so much money......<mumble mumble> EJ>Offering over 1001 gold doesn`t make any difference to recuits, in game 13 I offered 1000 gold for a BT on and on turn 4 (ish) I got one with 51sk, 69 to, 89 aw and 34 ch, has anyone ever got a better thief for more money?I don`t think so. I have also had multiple mages with 50-59 skill (30-45to,60-69aw) for just 1000 gold, same results with priests and fighters. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Bensey <9365040@mull.sms.ed.ac.uk> Date: Mon, 27 Feb 1995 13:24:37 +0000 > PN> I issued a 1001gp recruitment order on turn 4 and accepted > the char next turn. I offered up on turn 3 and I got all the > normal stuff but only 250gp char. NB>I'm just starting a new group. I'll try and get enough money together in the first few turns to recruit a 1000gp char and let you know what is possible. >CC> 20% is nothing. Make it 50/60% and I'm interested. NB>I used to play with 100% Flee Factor from day one. If you play with anything less then surely you are just expecting to be beaten? And if you expect to be beaten then you will be beaten. Think positively! I never lost a fight, and I never lost a character. Except to a purple fungi but that doesn't count. *Aligned Cities NB> Would somebody please explain to me the benefits of cities being aligned? Good players can imagine cities being aligned by writing for the newsletter and developing those ideas within their own play. There is no need to force this action on players through KJC's end! NB>In game5 I'm developing the city of Zanul as a haven for law-abiding citizens where the minions of evil are driven from the city gate by paradigms of honesty and bravery, the Guards of Zanul. This is done by writing in the newsletter as Colquin, Captain of the GOZ. This develops the idea of the aligned city, but if players don't want to be involved in my schemes they are more than welcome to write and tell me so, and Colquin won't bother them. But I am providing people with an opportunity to role-play and game-play their group. What more could you want? NB> If KJC aligned Zanul as EVIL I should move my group from one end of Kharne to another? No way, I'll just change the alignment of my group - that would be much easier! I want to stay here because the terrain is flat, there all the services I want on offer here, the powders are cheap and I know of a dungeon nearby. Why would I want to move, why should I move? You'ld destroy all the fun I had role-playing my group. Is that the way to go? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 27 Feb 1995 13:58:33 +0000 (GMT) From: Allan Hooper <A.O.Hooper@herts.ac.uk> > PN> Implimented = cheap > Non implimented = expensive waste of gp! I just found out and I'm not all that impressed . > From: Rogerio Fung <l41186@alfa.ist.utl.pt> > Besides all this, theorically, even if the party had only 4 powerful > characters, it wouldn't be attacked, but then, if they did attack > someone/thing, they could still suffer from losses...I cant picture no one > doing the thing Paul described... AH> A four member party would get *totally stuffed* if they fought anyone . This is because even if they all had 99TO they simply cant take or give as much damage as a 15 member party . > get hit just as much . I have organised a fight for this turn so I'll see > how 30% goes but rest assured if it goes wrong I'll blame you <BEG>. AH> <sigh> This fight has fallen through as we fought in town after a spate of stealing from both sides - in the resulting 3 rounds of melee my group inflicted 1D 5SW and LW the rest and had 6 wounded themselves . So now it looks like I've no chance to test my spell casting and flee % out :( > From: bg216@freenet.buffalo.edu (Rodrigo M. Fung) > IGO> Priests can and should always be able to cast opposite god miracles. > A powerful priest logically can twist the forces of the universe :) and > plea the gods to favour them. AH> I dont agree . The priest is the servant of the Gods not the other way around . Why should Phyloqure allow priests to cast evil combat miracles then help them out when they ask for it ? IMO he wouldnt , he is fundamentaly apposed to combat and his priests should reflect that . As a side effect instead of the Good V's Evil thing that is very strong and people can instantly relate to we have a lot of godless void alliances of groups which just happen to have joined together for no apparent reason . > IGO> Mages in leather armour?! If you are really into role-playing it's a > great idea but don't impose it to the others! My concept of a mage is to > carry as much armour as they can...never understood how armour can affest > mana :) AH> Hows a mage ment to do all that delicate arm and finger waving whilst wearing heavy armour ? It not a question of weight its a question of bulk . I have been unfortunate enough to wear a bit of chain mail whilest LRP and bugger me it was heavy and bulky (and tiring and painfull...!) ;) it made any fine movements (and running very far) out of the question . -------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Stefan Andersson <t94stean@und.ida.liu.se> Date: Mon, 27 Feb 95 15:32:46 +0100 SA> Some comments from me... >IGO> Mages in leather armour?! If you are really into role-playing it's a >great idea but don't impose it to the others! My concept of a mage is to >carry as much armour as they can...never understood how armour can affest >mana :) I think that all that is mumble jumbo. In shadowrun you can carry >armour and in Mage too! Sincerely if you really believe that mages should >only be in leather why don't you set the example and boast in to the >world (newsletter) that you are the only and true Quest player? :) SA> A DAMN lot of complaints about my little opinion. I don't think you should have any armour restrictions for any type of characters, but why set the limit for mages at Ring Mail (or Chain, or whatever it was, I don't remember anymore...)? Either they should be able to wear ANY armour, as today, or the limit should be as it is in all fantasy world with limits - no metal (meaning that the limit would be leather...). End of discussion... >KH> Could we collect more data like that? It would probably be the easiest >way to judge a monsters strength before fighting it. From my temple quests >I can add dopplegangers to the 60gp/sector class. SA> Yes!!! Everybody on the mailing-list should view their turn-sheets and send in their figures. I will ask the members of my alliance... (And to all those: The Observer is coming soon...) >IGO> About SA idea of combat...it seems nice but that would make priests >at a disadvantage as their miracles are not as powerful as mages. As >their miracles are not as powerful as mages. So it would be more fair to >priests to shoot missile weapons togheter with fighters, miracles >togheter with mages and fight like fighters and thieves. SA> Wouldn't that make the priests mightier than fighters...? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 28 Feb 1995 08:50:43 +0000 (GMT) From: Allan Hooper <A.O.Hooper@herts.ac.uk> Whilest surfing the internet I decided to read some rec.games.pbm and coz I had so much spare time I started to read things I otherwise wouldnt . One of these things was the Feb 95 issue of Monster Island's eMonster and the people there seemed very cheary because a british programmer called Steve from KJC was going to be working full-time on updating ABM's MI . So presuming KJC dont have many programmers called Steve I doubt we'll be seeing any Quest improvements for a while , especially judging by the amount of stuff they want doing to MI . -------------------------------------------------------------------------- JPG> I would like to know about this also... it seems to that KJC, having lost one programmer, are now using Steve to work on MI full time for a while, leaving us with the new alliance routines to play about with. JPG> It may just be my high expectations or something, but I like to feel that when we come up with suggestions for Quest, they get looked at and thought about, and hopefully implemented within a sensible time span... like for example much less than a year! JPG> I won't say more on the matter untill I hear something more of Steve about this, and I would appreciate some info Steve. You may have noticed we are trying to compile a list of changes we would like to see, but the question is, is there any point, if there is no chance of them being coded for a while? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: DEAN P R SHEARS <eeshears@swansea.ac.uk> Date: Tue, 28 Feb 1995 11:03:46 GMT0BST Only in the digest could you explain i have been off line for about 3 weeks and so has the server intermitantly and so I am just catching up on my mail sorry for any delays or lost mails. PN> TQs I've had are as follows Life Bringer 1080gp 5 South 6 West Giant Ape 1 320gp 2 North 4 East wolves 4 240gp 1 south 3 east fire elemental 720gp 4 south 2 east giant bats 2 240gp 2 south 4 west elves 2 240gp 4 south 4 east gnome 1 160gp 4 north 1 west imp 1 400gp 3 north 4 west giant apes 4 320gp 3 north 4 west rats 12 80gp 4 south orcs 6 160gp 4 south 1 east tigers 2 400gp 3 north 4 west harpy 1 400gp 5 north 5 west cavemen 4 80gp 2 north 1 east fire elemental 720gp 3 north 4 east those are the best ones I've had, of course I was offered the normal 1 goblin etc but I didn't think they were needed. I somebody going to build a compendium of monster prices? and when it's finished will it be allowed to be printed here? > digest about the minimum party members killed in one turn. About Paul > Noble if you want to improve to 99sk your 4 members, go for it! The only > disadvantage is that you will take the same time as to improve 15 members > but hey! You can't be attacked right? :) PN> it seems the the RF brothers both got the wrong impression, unless they meant it to be insulting, I said some sad case would run with 4 chars and it's true, give somebody the oppertunity and there will always be at least 1 player who will use it. No group should be immune, I think it goes wholly against the grain of the realism of the group, is the enemy going to stop mid combat and say 'whoa, lads, we've already killed 11 I think we should let these 4 go free', no I don't think they would. PN>Imagine how much damage a fully strengthed character can do.. kill a fighter with one hit, easily carry tables of weight. If you don't believe a char Dwarf fighter can die in 1 hit I saw a group which had a 100+ tough fighter with a +3 axe and 100% weap skill, plus a double strength magic ring, he went into combat and took 63hp off an PC and killed it in one hit, times this by 4 and then add twice as much strength, coupled with beserk, flame, strength, bless, poison then you can begin to see losing 4 characters a round. They don't even need to be fighters, 4 super charged mages or priests would work just as well, with mages there is also 4 death spells to work with, prime for raking in the TQs. PN> Imagine if your flee factor was over 40%, you'd lose another 4 chars the next round and then you'd be at you're 4 char minimum. PN> others have the argument that you could get 15 chars upto full top potential in the same time as 4, perhaps so, nobody would waste time on 4 when they can have 15. I know a player who has enough money to be able to waste 100 turns on a group, developing 4 chars, and he probably would if this rule was introduced. PN> Has anyone ever thought of making a alliance from us lot? a purely Email alliance would certainly be able to keep up to date with events. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 1 Mar 1995 14:48:00 +0200 (METDST) From: Kjell Elgsaas <Kjell.Elgsaas@max.hint.no> KE> What I want to see in the near future from KJC, is the ability to e-mail "turn cards" to them. Would be dead easy, really. It would save us players both time and money. I'd still want my results by snailmail, though! (Personal: Any Game 8 players reading this? Mail me!) Kjell 3=) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 01 Mar 1995 14:36:06 GMT From: editor@elbon.demon.co.uk (Paul Noble) PN> Looking back at the alliance info that the Email list got I have just noticed some rather disturbing unfairities (?). You use the bank to store your money, you have to use the bank to store your alliance funds. If the alliance HQ is robbed then they get money from your alliance heads account. How? it's in a totally different building, surely the only money to be robbed from a HQ would be the gold taken in that turn as the alliance would pay it in to the bank at the end of the day. PN> I think that if robbers attempt to rob the HQ it should be treated more like a S order, with the groups inside the HQ acting as the victims, this way the most aware char from each group present added together could be the defence level. Being in a building and only sending the thief and a lookout should mean that the thieves could not flee so quickly as they could be trapped inside, so the HQ groups should get to either capture and kill the thief, get a ransom, or go at the thieves for a couple of rounds of melee. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: jerry.de.vos@orion.nl (Jerry De Vos) Date: Wed, 1 Mar 1995 10:00:00 GMT Hello Joseph, JPG> Um.. it's Josh btw, but don't worry about it. :-) Here some entries for the Digest.
