Combat Sense: Not detecting hits from the sides and behind is due to lack of combat sense. Monsters like Bandit Lords, etc, detect the attacts directed at them due to extreme lvls in CS. The only factors contributing to detection are: Great helms, and number of foes. Great helms reduce vision. Light Helms and lower do not as yet. If there are lots of attackers, it is much harder to detect all attacks. Move Quietly: At this time only effects suprise at the beginning of the battle. Back Stab: Is solely due to being in the right spot and attacking with the right weapon. Those are Hugh's words as close as I can recall. Move quietly does not effect back stab. One last thing: Hugh expressed an intrest in a program that would ask you all the form questions and create a text file of your e-mail turns.
