[PBEM News] Umbral Hell From: sharlene79@mindspring-dot-com.no-spam.invalid (sharlene79) Date: Sun, 01 Oct 2006 16:21:50 +0000 I almost called this game Purgatory, but that would have assumed characters came from a dark past. But let us just say that each character is no saint. Players will have Modern origins. But very soon they will find themselves facing the supernatural and elements of the future. They may meet umbral horrors, undead, dragons, demons, aliens, and even gods. (If you don't go around slaughtering every creature in some god's home or temple, you probably won't meet one unless you have become important enough to notice. and even then, they will probably just talk.) Much of this game is drawn from movies such as Sin City, Jacobs Ladder, Highlander, Matrix, Dark City and The Devils Advocate. (Yes, I know that is an odd grouping.) It also is inspired somewhat by ETROM, World of Darkness, and Immortal games. (See ETROMs description at www.etrom.com.) The campaign setting is extremely flexible and will depend largely on the players backgrounds initially. Yes, this will begin as a modern fantasy setting with elements of horror much as seen in Sin City. For this reason the game will be Mature themed. It will NOT, however, be open season for porn. Sorry, but find another game for that. If you are an adult, you don't have to ask what is going on behind that door. I should warn you that dark deeds will be rewarded with dark futures. It is possible to change the genre of the game. But doing so is something players will have to figure out how to do. The city is only so big, and very soon players will realize it is the only city the NPCs know anything about. And it is like no city on Earth. But discovering the truth will be a matter of exploration and survival. While the game will begin in a Sin City type of environment, there are other realms. And the mundane world is still out there if you can find your way back. The game system in use will be GURPS 3rd edition. But players will not need to know the system. This is a diceless game for players. It will be a GM guided adventure requiring creative writing skills. Players will run their own characters, not NPCs or PCs. -- posted from PBEM News - PBEM listings and announcements Reply to this post at http://www.pbemnews.org Up
