[PBEM News] Afilacan, also seeking co-moderators. From: bodiorm@online-dot-no.no-spam.invalid (Shadow) Date: Thu, 21 Sep 2006 18:16:12 +0000 Born when Afilacan was still young, the ancient races of dragons, phoenixes and gryphons were long its sole rulers, shaping the world as they saw it fit. With their joined power, they created land and sea, filling it with life and other things that pleased them. Hunting, loving, seeking and watching, they lived thus for many ages, their lives filling the world with magic. Time passing, many of their creations died out or evolved into new and wonderous forms. And among those were the humans, the oldest of the young races and those who would give birth to the races of elves, dwarfs and faerie. Adaptive and cunning, they soon began to spread slowly throughout the world from the deep forests of their birth. Colonies were lost, their inhabitants succumbing to new and strange enviroments or finding ways to adapt to it by changing their forms. Many of these were lost as well, but three survived to become new beings in their own right. In the mountains of the south, those who would become the dwarves thrived. Made small and strong by the thin air of their homes, they sought to explore the deep roots of their home, seeking out the metals and minerals to be found there. With time however, they were drawn down to the oceans, fearing the gryphons and other creatures of the mountains. And becoming ship-makers and sailors, they soon forgot their roots. Descendants of those dwarves who did not depart from the mountains, the ancestors of the faerie were seekers of mysteries. As the first to discover the use of magic, they soon became intrigued by its nature, and over time they were also changed by it. However, although they were the ones to teach magic to the other young races, the faerie soon grew aloof. Content to study the mysteries of magic and of existence, they had little need for others, prefering solitude from those they thought to be ignorant. Last came the elves, children of humans who chose life on the vast savannas and plains of the world. Growing tall and slender, they became dark-skinned hunters and explorers, eventually being the first to make true contact with the ancient races. Always curious and with open minds, they forged the old alliance and the dynasty of Kings and Queens to guard the younger races. In the begining, both the young and the ancient races viewed each other with respect, aware of that an alliance benefitted them both. Where the ancient races had power and wisdom on their side, the young ones had numbers and the eagerness to grown and learn on their side. And so, the alliance lasted for many millenia. In the city of Corona, the ruling kings and queens-- two of each race, were given great power. Capable of calling on the aid of the dragons, they were also given the use of vessels of great power. With such power, they could keep all nations within the alliance safe from the rages of nature, and also against attacks by any nation that chose to remain independent. As a link between them all, stood the sorcerers. Acting as a link between the young and old races, they learned from the ancients and in turn taught others again. Many were even considered near equals by the dragons, gryphons and phoenixes alike. It did not last... With time, the kings and queens grew neglectful, choosing to use the power for their own pleasures. Likewise, the ancient races grew less friendly and their wish for domination grew stronger, made worse by the now unchecked spread of the younger races. Despite of the efforts made by sorcerers and the more level-headed among the ancient races, the deterioration could not be halted, and the alliance shattered. But while an all-out war was avoided, it soon became clear that the break could not be mended. Through the three centuries that followed, the young races hunted the dragons and their kin, and likewise the ancient races hunted the young. With time, even the sorcerers had little choice but to protect those of their own kind, many becoming warriors and hunters of the ancient races in order to protect the commoners of their own kind. Still, they always worked to avoid war, often at great expense. At the present time however, that may be about to change, with the death of the last remaining truly ancient dragon. Grown increasingly bitter over the years, the dragon Mountain Lord known as Stormblaze eventually turned on the settlements of the younger races in his territory. Inevitably a sorcerer was called to deal with the threat, and as the sorcerer-- Seyindrenas Kiiren, failed to convince the dragon to cease the attacks, they were both killed in the following battle. Even now, the dragons and other ancient races are gathering, their forces moving as they prepare to wipe out the younger races once and for all. http://www.forumsvibe.com/afilacan/index.php?mforum=afilacan -- posted from PBEM News - PBEM listings and announcements Reply to this post at http://www.pbemnews.org Up
