Tonite on Cops we ride with the ISP as they patrol some of the roughest starports in the Periphery.............. >....we interupt your regularly scheduled show for this important news bulletin. He Who's Name Can't Be mentioned, from the Cohoes system, is reported to have fled from the Inner Empire to the Periphery. This person, also known as "fat-boy" eluded emmigration authorities and slipped aboard one of the many transports headed to the Periphery. We go to our field reporter live at IMP Jax..... >....Good Evening Ted. As you can see in the background, the starport is abuzz with activity as ISP S.W.A.T. teams seal off the immigration areas of the starport. Security at Jax has ben raised to the highest levels possible to ensure that the criminal doesn't escape if he is aboard of the the transports that come to Jax with Inner Empire Immigrants. ISP tactical units are also enroute to Hypso, in case he is aboard one of the transports that arrive there. fat-boy is reported to be in the company of several other wanted criminals, one of which is the hated "Bob Cook". One ISP detective I spoke with earlier stated that these criminals are believed to have hired the noted attorney, Otto Bongwater, to represent themand may attempting to reach him. It is unknown if the authorities have Mr. Bongwater's offices under surveilance. Kriegergruppe, who also are noted clients of Mr. Bongwater, were unavailable for comment on this matter. Uniforms of many different groups have been seen helping seal the Jax starport, including SSL. When I spoke with them earlier about a "contract" reportedly placed on the head of "fat-boy", by the alleged mob-boss, the SSL PD, they denied any such activity and claimed that they were just members of Starport Workers Union local #1641 sent here to do their civic duty in the apprehension of this criminal. They had no comment about the bulges under their jackets other than to claim that they were simply tools of their job. We'll keep you updated as news developes. Back to you Ted. >...thank you John, for that interesting report. We've recieved an update that ISP interceptors are stopping transports at the Battle Asteroids and searching them for the criminals, but since many transports had already passed the Asteroids, the criminals might have eluded authorities. More on this story on the 11pm news. We now return you to your regularly scheduled program, already in progress...... ------------------------------ From: steve668@dallas.relay.ucm.org Date: Fri, 24 Mar 1995 20:36:50 CST Subject: [none] Okay, so this has nothing to do with BSE, but I think you'll get a laugh out of it. - ------------------------------------ MEMO TO ALL EMPLOYEES: It has been brought to the management's attention that some individuals have been using foul language in the course of normal conversation between employees. Due to commplaints from some of the more easily offended workers, this conduct will no longer be tolerated. The management does, however, realize the importance of each person being able to properly express their feelings when communicating with their fellow employees. Therefore, the management has compiled the following coded list. It is imperative that all employees understand and memorize the code phrases, so that the proper exchange of ideas and information can continue: Old Phrase: New Phrase: No fucking way! I'm not certain that's feasible You've gotta be shitting me. Really? Tell someone who gives a fuck. Perhaps you should check with... It's not my fucking problem. I wasn't involved with that project Ask me if I give a fuck. Of course I'm concerned. What the fuck? Interesting behavior. Screw it, it won't work. I'm not sure I can implement this. Why in the fuck didn't they tell me sooner? I'll try to schedule that. When the fuck do they expect me Perhaps I can work late. to do this? Who the fuck cares? Are you sure it's a problem? He's got his head up his ass. He's not familiar with that problem Eat shit. You don't say. Eat shit and die. Excuse me. Eat shit and die, motherfucker. Excuse me, Sir? What the fuck do they want from my life? They weren't happy with it? Kiss my ass. So you'ld like my help with it? Fuck it, I'm on salary. I'm a bit overloaded at the moment. Shove it up your ass. I don't think you understand. This job sucks. I love a challenge. Who the hell died and made you boss? You want me to take care of this? Blow me. I see. Blow yourself. Did you see? Another fucking meeting? Yes, we should discuss this. I really don't give a shit. I don't think it will be a problem. If you have a request for an addition to this list, please submit a memo to the management in writing. thank you for your cooperation in this matter. ------------------------------ From: TimEnright@aol.com Date: Fri, 24 Mar 1995 22:38:49 -0500 Subject: Re: BSE: More Questions for RTG Concerning morale: I do not think robotic ground combat items should be affected by morale - robotic items are not affected in space combat. I also think troops and colonists should have separate morale, affecting combat and production respectively - and make it reasonable to bring the morale of both to high levels. ------------------------------ From: Kerry Harrison <kerry@io.com> Date: Fri, 24 Mar 1995 23:37:20 -0600 (CST) Subject: BSE: Re: your mail On Fri, 24 Mar 1995 steve668@dallas.relay.ucm.org wrote: > Okay, so this has nothing to do with BSE, but I think you'll get a laugh out > of it. [off-topic spam deleted] Steve, Please limit your postings to this list to things related to BSE/RTG/PBM etc, or you'll be removed for the list. Kerry Harrison BSE-List Admin ------------------------------ From: chazz@cais.cais.com (Charles Meredith) Date: Sat, 25 Mar 1995 10:09:59 -0500 Subject: BSE: Drugs, Addiction, Etc I find the whole current system very unrealistic. 1) You can have drug-free colonists for years and then round everyone up, force them to take drugs (otherwise it would not go away) and gain immeadiate morale bonuses due to drugs. While I agree that most people like to have variety available to them, I think most people will sit back and stay in their rut in life until convinced to do something by their friends. 2) Upon restricting the flow of drugs, nothing happens other than losing the morale bonus that the extra portion provided. While this might be realistic for a one week distribution of something, it certainly is not the only result from long-term distribution followed by reduction in availablility. One easy way to show this would be an increased death rate (which should fold back into a lowered morale). 3) There are no advertised drug interaction problems. Like say Araldo Potion will decrease your death rate but if combined with cortalon it is deadly! Or Dalium Hydroxide causes people to throw up. Although they still don't care about it (each does comes with it's own ralph bag), it results in an increased food consumption. It would probably just increase the food cost for a given morale bonus; but it would make food distributions of greater than 35 usefull. The only bonus for drugs should be that they shift morale bonuses around from week to week. It will require two new variables: Drug Level (DL) and Drug Duration (DD). The Drug Leve is the highest morale bonus level of drug use since the last time drugs have been completely purged from the colony (DD=0). The Drug Duration is how long it would take to purge the colony of drugs. Each week that drugs are distributed, one is added to the Drug Duration, the Drug level is set to the higher of its old value or the drug morale bonus for this week, and of course, give the colony the advertised morale bonus. The Drug Duration should be maxed at eight or so in order to prevent a colony from being run too far into the ground prior to handing over to another player. Each week the colony goes drug free, the Drug Duration is reduced by one. The morale is lowered by the Drug Level. Morale can be further modified for this by hospitols. If they have the 1/1000, restore one of the lost morale points from drug withdrawl. If the colony does not have 1 hospitol per 1000 pop, then lower their morale by another 1 as the colonists realise that their needs are not being met. Example: (this colony has a morale of 50 for everything else which will not change through these weeks and they start with 1/1000 hospitols) [----- Morale Bonuses -----] Week Std Drug Withdrawl Total DD DL Remarks 1 50 0 0 50 0 0 Clean slate 2 50 4 0 54 1 4 First intro to drugs 3 50 0 4-1 47 0 0 ... but it was a one-time deal 4 50 2 0 52 1 2 Gov. gets big supply 5 50 2 0 52 2 2 And distros... 6 50 2 0 52 3 2 And distros... 7 50 2 0 52 4 2 And distros... 8 50 2 0 52 5 2 And distros... 9 50 2 0 52 6 2 And distros... 10 50 2 0 52 7 2 And distros... 11 50 2 0 52 8 2 from here on out - 12 50 2 0 52 8 2 no further "Dammage" 13 50 2 0 52 8 2 14 50 2 0 52 8 2 15 50 0 2-1 49 7 2 Until the drugs run out... 16 50 0 2-1 49 6 2 [population grows to excees 1/1000 hospitol ratio] 17 50 0 2+1 47 5 2 18 50 0 2+1 47 4 2 19 50 4 0 54 5 4 Emergency need for production 20 50 0 4+1 45 4 4 21 50 0 4+1 45 3 4 22 50 0 4+1 45 2 4 23 50 0 4+1 45 1 4 24 50 0 0 50 0 0 Clean slate Comments.... ------------------------------ End of BSE Digest V195 #117 *************************** To subscribe to bse-digest, send the command: subscribe bse-digest in the body of a message to "Majordomo@io.com".
