Game Design SMTP<->DOS Files From: "anthonyc@cet.co.jp" <anthonyc@cet.co.cp> Date: Wed, 12 Apr 1995 00:00:00 +0000 In the off chance that anyone cares: I am writing a PBEM. Orginally, I was going to have a Windows NT server run a Mail Gateway to move Mail off of SMTP. The Gateway would move the letters to an MSMail Postoffice, where I was going to use MAPI (MSMail API) to read the letters into the games. I have discovered a much simpler (and cheaper) way. Use Eudora (freeware) POP mail client, to pop mail off of your internet provider. Eudora saves all you mail in handy text files (IN.MBX, OUT.MBX etc). The formats are simple enough that you don't need a manual, and everything is in DOS text. No Unix, no SMTP, everything you need to know is in DOS text. Give me a few months and I'll have a PC based PBEM game that you can run off of a 486 Windows based home PC. All you will need is an email account. wish me luck. Referenced By Up
