Let's put it this way: We'll remember our alliancepartners ;) There are 3 type of interessts: Those who stick to a pact. Those who will support outside Atlantis. Those who will join alliance building a community out in wastelands. I think your Idea of lottery is very good. But if drawing of winnernumber(s) could be build in Atlantisprogram itself by author,we would be absolutely sure there was no cheating going around. I'm not saying you will cheat, but guarranties would be fare better if DRAWING were made by atlantis-program. If I knew for sure there was minimal chance of cheating (by letting program itself DRAW winnernumber,I would consider buying lottery. I think winnernumber shoul give at least 5000-10000 silver,or new (educated leaders/peoples/equipment) to make lottery attractive for both vet's and newbies. 30-40 silver is a large amount when you're a poor newbie. -je- ---------------------------------------------------------- Date: Sat, 29 Apr 1995 11:35:50 -0400 From: StrapMatt@aol.com Subject: Wanted: Leader for Sale People of Atlantis: If I recall correctly, there was one faction whom described a leader that it wished to sell this month. Why? The point is, if we're trying to be even semi-rp game, there _isn't_ some bloody 'overgod' who prohibits upkeepers of lottery from cheating all they want. (Although, if the people participating in lottery notice cheating, they _might_ lynch the cheater) > If I knew for sure there was minimal chance of cheating (by letting > program itself DRAW winnernumber,I would consider buying lottery. > I think winnernumber shoul give at least 5000-10000 silver,or new > (educated leaders/peoples/equipment) to make lottery attractive for both > vet's and newbies. Chuckle. '$/people from nowhere'? If 20 people play, and each pay 30-40 $, the winnings would be just 600-800. > 30-40 silver is a large amount when you're a poor newbie. Oh? Output of couple of workers (4-20, depending on place), or less than half the cost of one level in one foundation (for magic factions). --- Destiny's Champion, Fate's fool, Eternity's Soldier, Time's Tool. -The Chronicle of the Black Sword ---------------------------------------------------------- Date: Sat, 29 Apr 1995 14:42:18 -0800 From: jbaclask@adnetsol.com (Jeff Baclaski) Subject: Atlantis- Seafaring questions Can anyone clarify if it is possible to GUARD while at sea? Obviously there are no tax tax money to protect, but there are instances where one might want to prevent other ships from passing through an ocean hex. If this is not presently possible, then I would be interested in pursuing this as a rule change. Is there any agreement? Also, could someone please clarify the use of the fishing skill. Are fish merely a commodity or are they consumable in some way. I could not find any referance to their utility in the rules. -Jeff Baclaski Men are from Mars Women are from Venus Newt is from Uranus ---------------------------------------------------------- Date: Sun, 30 Apr 1995 02:12:27 -0400 (EDT) From: Jairold Dominak <jairold@m-net.arbornet.org> Subject: Re: FUNDALIGIONISM At last a church I can identify with. I would be glad if some vets could have a look at it,giving me input what routines should be in it. I will first 'finish' viewing part, then automatize the order-writing, by mouse-cliking. At the moment I'm working on : * Tactical map,to show: terrain, units, people, items, buildings, ships * Program will take input from report-file,order-file,and by manual input. * Program is menu and mouse driven. I will need some helpers for testing, probably next week. If you wanna glimt of it (pcxfile),just email me. Thanks, see you in Atlantis. -je- ---------------------------------------------------------- Date: Sun, 30 Apr 1995 15:00:16 -1812 From: bartlett@amanda.dorsai.org (Chris Bartlett) Subject: Geoff's threat about the Times reward. Geoff, I understand your intent with your statement that bad pieces might not receive the 50-silver reward. However, there are a couple basic problems with it. To begin with, 50 silver is not really all that much in the grad scheme of things, so trying to use it as a carrot and a stick might be a little like trying to stop a riot with a straw. Next, while of course you are the final arbiter of any issue in the game, and we accept that as part of the deal, having you as the sole judge of an article's worthiness is a bit dictatorial, don't you think? I personally enjoy writing for the Times, and if it weren't already so bloody long each month, my submissions would probably be several K in length. But others don't have the time, the talent or the training to produce magnificent prose, and it's a little unfair to dock them for not doing so. (BTW, that came off as if I thought I was the next Charles deLint or something, and while I'd like to be, that's for others to judge. <grin>) Finally, if you're going to dock folk for bad submissions, are you going to reward a bonus for realy good ones? You see the can of worms this could open? I'd suggest you just not worry about it, let us regulate ity commenting on bad submissions ourselves.
