Galaxy questions From: tulrich@unlinfo.unl.edu (Timothy Ulrich) Date: Thu, 04 May 1995 00:00:00 +0000 Hi, First things first... I did read the manual, as well as a couple of helpful guides at the WWW site, but my first game of Galaxy is about to start and I'm confused. A couple of questions that don't seem to be explained anywhere: 1. If, for my first turn, I design a ship type and tell my planet to start building it, at the end of the turn I'll have some number of identical ships that are all part of a "group," right? I can't do anything with them (move them, etc) until the next turn because I don't know the group number... again correct? On the next turn, though, if I have a group of 50 ships, but I only want to send one or two, loaded up with cargo, to a given planet... how do I do that? If I load up ships with colonists, only 10 of those 50 ships will have anything on them. If I then Send 2 ships (of those 50) to some planet, how do I know they'll have colonists on them??? The Break off command doesn't seem like it will do me any good, because I'd have to wait until the following turn to see what the new group number was. I'm confused by how all this is going to work! 2. I'm a little confused on distances. If my home planet is at 134.77, 74.30 and I want to go to 137.87, 82.17, do I break out the calculator and plug these numbers into some calculation? I hope so, because if you tell me to just use the map and a ruler I'll be in trouble (when I download the map into my wordprocessor, all of the tabs and spaces get totally screwed up... so my map isn't to scale.) 3. Anyone want to give a newbie some strategies? Which ships should I build first? What should I produce on my planets at first? Etc.
