I have been in touch with Rob for a while now, and he has given me copies of his newbie help pages to go on my web site. I should have checked these and installed them in plain text format in the next day or two. When revisions/ complaints have been dealt with I will convert them tohtml. I haven't read them all through yet, I'm just saying they are going on my page, so I cannot defend their content or Robs activities. He seems to be able to do that quite well himself :) I just counted and the total document is about 7500 words long! A lot of effort has gone into this :) Jon. Rumours have abounded about who instigated the battle and even an incorrect telling has been given in the times. 'Twas the Free Companions advance that caused the war. A piece of advise for people mailing to teh list: If you wan't to send (or reply) mail to the list, send it to the list address and delete the address of the person who wrote the original mail. Mail that goes to the list will go to the target person anyway, if you CC it to them, they will get it double. - Ewing ---------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 9 May 95 08:49:56 PDT From: "GDUNBAR.US.ORACLE.COM" <GDUNBAR@us.oracle.com> Subject: Re: changing exit --Boundary-10192662-0-0 You will move to the city that is indicated on the report. The idea of teaching, is to decrease the time spent to learn a skill. This does work out better in the longrun, thus : You study 3 months to get to level 2 in a basic skill, Month 1 : Study Shoemaking - $10 maintenance + $10 study costs (30 days) Month 2 : Study Shoemaking - $10 maintenance + $10 study costs (60 days) Month 3 : Study Shoemaking - $10 maintenance + $10 study costs (90 days) Total : $60 BUT if you are taught by someone : Month 1 : Study Shoemaking - $10 maintenance + $10 study costs (60 days) Month 2 : Study Shoemaking - $10 maintenance + $10 study costs (120 days) Total : $40 plus teaching costs (say $5 per month = $10) Final Tallies 90 days untaught - $60 120 days taught - $50 Which one do you prefer? Basically, teachers are there to help you get better, they are losing out on personal study time, and are usually just making maintenance - appreciate them! Regards a-plenty Dave McGaw u3djm@csc.liv.ac.uk As always, any help that I can offer you, let me know! I'll see what I can do! ---------------------------------------------------------- From: "J.P. Harvey" <u3jph@csc.liv.ac.uk> Subject: Skill reports required Date: Tue, 9 May 1995 19:30:59 +0100 (BST) Hi all, Skill report listings have gone up on my web page today. They are very incomplete, as I have only a few reports of myself and my friends to go on. Please send me your skill reports, so I can add to the list. In return, if you don't have access to the Web, I'll send you the ascii file with my complete list in (similar method to that used by th CCC, I believe). A friend points out that mages don't like to do their spell research in this way, they like to be secretive. Apparently when you have researched a Kak spell, it is embarrasing to admit it in public, and annoying if everyone else knowsto avoid it. If there are some public spirited mages who want to contribute, they're welcome! I have no mages and thus don't have this problem :) This list will not have every contributor listed as this would be longer than the skill report list! regards, Jon.
