The answer to this depends on what module you are in.

In ROI, each status had relative strengths compared to each other.
It was very hard to overwrite a good status with an evil one for
example.  As a general rule, the higher you go up a status tree,
the stronger it is and the harder it is to overlay something else.
If your character is on the bottom rung of the religious tree in
NIC or DD, I'd guess that you'd have a good chance of overlaying
Enchanted.  Go for it!

From what I've seen and what other players have told me, the
religous trees (NIC1, UK) really suck.  The higher levels are just
not that good.  This seems strange to me as NIC was obviously an
attempt to bring Priest characters to the fore.
