ATLANTISv2 atl-players-digest #71 From: csd@microplex.com (Christian Daudt) Date: Thu, 25 May 1995 00:00:00 +0000 I thought I was going to get thousands of responses asking me to keep this digest (maybe I just wanted to massage my ego ;-)) But I received enough responses, so I'll keep the digest going. ---------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 24 May 1995 11:17:23 +0100 (BST) From: Damian Penney <Damian.Penney@newcastle.ac.uk> Subject: Nyx Home Page A few people haven't realised that the image is actually an image map i.e Clicking on different parts of it takes you to different items... People have tried it before. Could you prove it by posting the relative section of your turn report to the list please? Also what's wrong with that tiny unit mentioned above? At least you can see itand it's not stealing your every penny ;-) The owner is one of the earlier players, who started at the beginning, which explains him having taken a reasonable approach to surviving in Atlantis City. I've used the same tactic, and it's working pretty well. Tax?!?!? I'd have kept quiet and started pillaging personally ;-) Jon. As you can buy and sell them it should be possible, but I hope not this is just a scary thought I had yesterday !! ---------------------------------------------------------- From: Bean <ATLANTIS@bluebean.demon.co.uk> Date: Wed, 24 May 1995 21:23:36 +0000 Subject: How to do ftp by email. There have been a few postings to this list recently from folks who have not received a Times and think they don't have ftp to go and get their own. If you have email (and I'm confident you do!) then you have ftp as well. This info has been very useful to me so it's probably worth spamming this list with it. If you're not interested then stop reading now. Here's what you do..... 1)Create a new message addressed to one of the following sites... ftpmail@census.gov (USA) ftpmail@sunsite.unc.edu (USA) bitftp@pucc.princeton.edu (USA) bitftp@vm.gmd.de (Germany) ftpmail@ftp.uni-stuttgart.de (Germany) ftpmail@ftp.luth.se (Sweden) ftpmail@doc.ic.ac.uk (UK) ftpmail@cs.uow.edu.au (Australia) as I'm here in the land of warm beer and cold summers I've only used the UK site and it's always worked fine. 2) Leave the subject of your message blank. 3) The body of the message is a script that the server you send the mail to will execute. To get the current Times the message should be this... open ftp.rahul.net cd /pub/atlantis/times get times.16 quit I've done this more than once and it works fine. Within a day or two the Times will appear in your mailbox, probably split over > 1 message as it's so big nowadays. You'll also get messages from the ftp server telling you how your job is progressing. All previous Times are gzipped so you need to switch ftp to binary before the get. (I've not done this). To get Times 10 the message should be this... open ftp.rahul.net cd /pub/atlantis/times binary get times.10.gz quit You can also just look at the directories using the dir command... open ftp.rahul.net cd /pub/atlantis/times dir quit or just open ftp.rahul.net cd /pub/atlantis dir quit As far as I know each script can only contain one GET or DIR, but you can send lots of scripts in different mail messages. In theory this should work for any ftp server that accepts anonymous login. Just change the OPEN, CD, DIR or GET commands accordingly. Magic! -------------------------------------------------------------------- This came from a useful online manual about what email can do on the Internet. To get a copy send one of the following mail messages. Don't bother asking me questions because all I know came from that source. It's quite a bit different than Atlantis' style of play, and will have daily turns when it comes up.
