Re: Throne of Rhianon From: poger@nyc.pipeline.com (Alex Poger) Date: Mon, 29 May 1995 00:00:00 +0000 Throne is a moderately adequate PBM. I played and won one of the earlier games. Throne really tried to accomplish great things but the people who set it up simply did not create a game that stands up well to the better games out there. The turn print outs don't include a graphic map which I feel is essential in light of todays market. This game suffers the same problem that hurts a lot of PBM games. The amount of information you get about the world and other positions is very limited. This makes it extraordinarily difficult to know what to do, who to attack, who is threatening your position, and why are things happening. Throne is even worse than usual since you don't know what everyone needs to do to create their personal victory. Frankly, I started without knowing how my own nation could achieve vicory. The rules could have been made A LOT more comprehensive. I won my first (and only) game in seven turns! Only two other players had even the slightest clue that I was kicking major butt, and that was only because I was foolish enough to blab about it. On the other hand, most games probably will last longer than seven turns. I'm an old time PBM gamer and live to abuse weak rules. I'm sure the management has changed the appropriate rules so what I did can't happen again (I hope). Summary: Thone is OK, but you can do better. Up
