ATLANTISv2 atl-players-digest #73 From: csd@microplex.com (Christian Daudt) Date: Mon, 29 May 1995 00:00:00 +0000 I thought I was going to get thousands of responses asking me to keep this digest (maybe I just wanted to massage my ego ;-)) But I received enough responses, so I'll keep the digest going. ---------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri, 26 May 1995 12:44:05 +1000 (EST) From: Vaughan Latimer <vlatimer@hilbert.maths.utas.edu.au> Subject: Spakker Decree Welcome Citizens of Spakker! The Surwegian Cartel welcomes you to to the bottom of the world and wishes you health, happiness, and long life. We are currently a 7 faction alliance composed of warriors, merchants and mages just arrived from Atlantis City, who've come to carve out a fief in this new land. It is our intention to occupy the two hexes North and NorthWest of the city this turn. We are eager to avoid any conflict over this but prepared to deal effectively with any unnecessary competition should this unfortunate situation arrise. Uninvited visitors, spies, and thieves will be roughly handled. Nevertheless, we hope to pursue friendly relations with all our neighbors and would be pleased to speak with one and all. We especially urge mages and traders to contact us to discuss the benifits of mutual exchange. We have many skills and spells that we would be happy to share with you. Please contact: vlatimer@hilbert.maths.utas.edu.au in this regard. Furthermore, we are considering running a Spakker/Yakleks area group alias so as to enhance local communication. If you would like to be added to this alias please mail me at: swater@glob.com with the subject: Spakker alias. You may also contact our alliance by mailing to surway@glob.com. We greatly look forward to making your aquaintence and wish you longlife and good health in the days to come. If you have a unit with 80 days of study, and one with 90 days of study, you wouldn't want to combine them. This will happen less in Atlantis 2. X-Orcl-Application: X-Mailer: ELM [version 2.3 PL11] Hello Atlanteans, Last week it dawned upon me that Atlantis 2 does not give player units experience while executing a task like that is done in Atlantis 1.1. Why is that? I thought it a good idea that you learn by doing also, but not as fast as by studying. For those who do not know the Atlantis 1.1 rules, when you study the unit gets 30 days of experience just like in Atlantis 2, but when you produce or execute another thing you need knowledge to do you gain 10 days worth of experience. Maybe this is something that could be (re-) build into Atlantis 2.0? Well, those are the obvious ones. You have to be able to Produce -- it's the only way you can use the fishing skill. If you have money and aren't sailing the boat, you can train, since you aren't doing anything else. WORKing is the real question, and the only way to find out the answer is to see whether a sea hex pays any wages. I would bet that they don't, but I could be wrong. ---------------------------------------------------------- From: "D.J. McGaw" <u3djm@csc.liv.ac.uk> Subject: Re: Holidays. This isa good idea to combat the problem. Could Geoff simply turn this off through the Summer (wherever it is Summer ...?????). If a playtester wants his faction killed off, then mail the Quit line, this way the game can continue without the deading of factions after 4 turns! Anyone agree! Mail the players list NOT ME! Trennig Industries is forming its units in Atlantis City. We are looking to ally with other new players for the express purpose of exploration and trade. Obviously, $5000 only goes so far for one faction, but several allies can throw in together to form a formidable opponent. If you are interested in forming an alliance, reply to me and I will start a list. We will obviously need to work together if we are to stand a chance outside (and perhaps inside) Atlantis City. Also for longbow it says defense is level 2. So a level one archer would be 1 point lower, giving a 1:2 chance (33%), but the rules say 1:4 chance (20%). I'd like to know which is right. -Thanks -Eli ---------------------------------------------------------- Date: Sun, 28 May 1995 13:30:50 -0500 (CDT) From: Lazarus <llong@io.com> Subject: Re: reshow I have not tried it, but according to the rules 5 May 95 it would go like this: RESHOW SKILL <skill> <level> or RESHOW SKILL <skill> Has anyone used it recently?
