Help me find a PBM ! From: keith.langley@mdcs.com (Keith Langley) Date: Wed, 31 May 1995 00:00:00 +0000 It may seem like a silly question, but if "most PBMs are rather bad", why are you so eager to play? Can you be more specific about what you like or don't like? For example, do you like: Team games? High diplomacy, stab in the back stuff? Tons of detail, number crunching, strategy? Colorful prose or gory battle results? Anonymous games where you mostly interact with the GM,not other players? Is there a genre you particularly like or don't - space, ancient/medieval, modern warfare, sports, offbeat (crime, lizards, battling platypuses)? Or does it matter? Are some things more or less important to you than others (glossy color rulebooks, cool maps, laser printed results, price, pages of output per turn, turn around time, EMail capability)? Not meaning to pick on you specifically - I see a lot of posts here like yours - "What's a good game to play?" - but very few talk about what they consider good or bad. I moderate two games and, like every other moderator, I have loyal players who love them, play in several at once, and sign up for new games whenever the old ones end. Also, like every other moderator, I've had people who looked at my games and shrugged, "so what?" - or sent off for a set-up, then never played a turn. So are mine "good games"? Depends what you like, I guess. There is no universal, perfect PBM; if htere were the rest of us would be playing it instead of running our own. Good luck finding something you like! (My games are ONE TRUE FAITH and ANCIENT EMPIRES. See the entries int he PBM list, or ANCIENT TIMES which is posted here every 20 days or so). Up
