How, on earth, does a TRN ship make the posting list when everyone is supposed to pick an AFF by turn 3? The player would have had to work like mad or been a tad bit careless to so. David B. Famous last words #36 - "They're only Kobolds" ------------------------------ From: PROTHORAX@aol.com Date: Tue, 30 May 1995 11:35:59 -0400 Subject: BSE: Bloackading Fleet The WaSP quick responce fleet enters the bloackade space square in Porkamo system. The WaSP ships show battle scars on the hulls and have tagging flags under the command window for kills. The WaSP field fleet commander orders the ships to fly formation past WCE ship Hunter's Moon. "LCDR Nuking Wasp of the WaSP reporting to the allied fleet." Never have the WaSP been so close to the WCE or FGZ ships?! There ship size and new weopons were far superior then WaSP low tech weopons and small ship size?! Our ships fall in behind the allied fleet. The seasoned commander radios the WaSP drones and states, "Drones, the QSN rittors(dogs) will try to break the bloackade and our mission is to kill as many rittors as possible." Many weeks pass and the dark blue WaSP fleet waits for the chance to destroy QSN ships. A coded message comes in from the WCE Hunter's Moon. A QSN merchantman is entering the area! "Battle stations! We are about to turn these QSN heathens into regolith! The missiles tubes fire first and a trail is seen leading from the WaSP ships to the QSN ship now on the targeting screen. The QSN ship is attempting to flee commander. A low vibration is felt as the plasma is being converted from metal. "Weopons officer fire the projectors when your at close range!" "I want the QSN rittor to see our compound eyes before he is turned to regolith!" The projector fires as many other allied weopens land all over the ship riping holes and imploding all over the QSN ship. "Aaah, a nonbeliver is turned into something usefull, space dust!" The captatains order a tagging to be placed under each command window of WaSP ships. The drones do a space walk and place a tag under the command windows. ------------------------------ From: PKRAUSKOPF@FALCON.AL.WPAFB.AF.MIL Date: Tue, 30 May 1995 11:46:31 -0400 Subject: Re: BSE: WCE Honor -Reply K'zk Kasrith-kazereckii, Your hyperwave to me a few weeks ago asked me if the WCE was ready for war both in the Periphery and in the Transhole. However, we both know that the KZK does not have the resources to mount an effective threat in tow major regions. Hence, you must be expecting help. And since you've already helped the QSN once in their anti-WCE activities, your participation in their anti-WCE alliance isn't a surprise. The existence of this alliance has already been corroborated by WCE Intelligence sources. Your initial contact with the WCE was to request access to thousands of our highest tech space weapons. However, since the KZK were incommunicado for such a long period of time, the Secretariat decided to deny your purchases until we could evaluate your intentions and attitude. Evidently, your attitude is somewhat liek a small human child's: If we don't give you what you want, you'll try to take it by force. This seems to vindicate teh Secretariat's decision. (Seems >like a good idea, huh) >I also hired an agent to try to get in touch with the blackmarket, >but "checked out" their colony first. (I was trying to find out >how many factories and mines a large colony like that had) Totally OOC: You should 1) Read Imperial Law to get an idea of what might be expected and accepted at a colony (Quman Law on Oduds probably differs, but probably only slightly). Hiring an Agent at someone's colony is a postable offense. The QSN would have been justified in annihilating your GP if they had something to use as proof that the agent was yours. 2) Consider yourself lucky. Putting unauthorized Ground Parties in someone's Starport is a great way to get DEAD. The appropriate thing to do would have been to contact the colony governor and ask permission to set up your ground party. The Colony Governor would either have accepted your request or declined it, possibly asking for customs fees on anything you sold if the request was accepted. You basically did two actions that probably would have gotten you in even deeper trouble anywhere else. I made the agent mistake when I was a new player, and it cost another (totally innocent) player his ship. And it was only because I hadn't read the Laws Section regarding agents. Fortunately, I was forgiven. But, basically, the Warlox' response could have been violent and he would have been justified. As would the response of the colony governor where I had placed my agent had he been inclined to post my ship. He just asked me to get rid of the agent. I was lucky. (And I found out from FAT BOY that I couldn't actually Fire my agent. I had to actually hire one at my own Colony to get rid of the damned thing - stupidest thing I ever heard.) >So now I get the following message from the QSN WARlOX. Now is it >just me, or does this seem a little stupid considering my FF is >only worth about 30,000 stellars? Does the mighty QSN normally >pick on us little guys like this? 1) I don't know if it's just you. Reading minds is impolite. <G> 2) The value of your GP materials is irrelevant. 3) The "mighty QSN" could have vented you, and been justified, for what you did. >Respectfully, >Ens. Tamen As I said, this was an OOC response. Sorry if it seemed harsh, I just wanted to get to what I thought were the salient points quickly. It would appear the rules are out of joint on this issue. If the 10% damage increase / week rule will really be enforced in the future, and if only colony repair complexes can fix hulls, than the huge size of some current ship models makes the max repair rate completely ineffective. Consider. Even if I were to make it to Hypso, which, at 9 complexes is the largest in the periphery, the best they can do is 150 * 9 = 1350 Mu repair per 70 TU week (I think this is right .. I'm not near a rulebook). The Blue Whale substained over 8000 Mu damage in the Rip attack. The fact that the largest repair complex in the periphery can't fix this ship in less than 6 game weeks (assuming they devoted themselves totally to the job) was, I would guess, not the intent of RTG in terms of game playability. It would take a major colony like Unitredd on the order of 14 game weeks. This 150 Mu / week limitation per repair complex needs to be upped, given the recent surge in ship size. Perhaps one could pay a bonus for quicker work? Hopefully Thad is listening to all this:-) Ronk ------------------------------ From: PKRAUSKOPF@FALCON.AL.WPAFB.AF.MIL Date: Tue, 30 May 1995 13:03:17 -0400 Subject: Re: BSE: Damage -Reply Even if Thad isn't listening, I can tell you what he'll say: Research it <g>. It has been kindly pointed out to me that the number of starport repair complexes is only limited in those starports of less than size 6. Thus there are ways to get even a ship as badly damaged as the Blue Whale back to fit and trim shape in a reasonable time, simply by having a colony construct from 30 to 60 such complexes. This invalidates my previously posted concerns on this issue. Given the darkening of the clouds of war, and the increased size of many of our current ships, such construction might be a good idea for many large colonies in any event. (I was trying to find out how many >factories and mines a large colony like that had) I am assuming that you're making an honest mistake, but a lot of colonies would have just squashed the ground party without asking. (And for game-mechanics reasons, I suspect that you would probably never make a dime (ie, one-tenth of a stellar) trying to sell engines.) Similarly, many colony governors are very paranoid about agents. And since the QSN have so many friends these days, I can imagine that they might be worried. Plead ignorance and ignore the fine. - --Russ ------------------------------ From: Kevin Curnutt <kcurnutt@metronet.com> Date: Tue, 30 May 1995 15:28:30 -0500 (CDT) Subject: WCE Honor On 30 May 1995, Derek Smith wrote: > If you want the "base insults" to stop, then get your comrades > (or f**k-buddies, or whatever you call them) in the WCE to BEHAVE > like civilized, intelligent life.
