My faction number is quite low (83), yet whenever I've submitted an article it has been very near the end. We have a lv 5 observer, and thus am pretty safe from theft and assassination in that area. If anyone wants to receive OBS training from the master himself, Lord Viper inAtlantis City, he should start teaching next turn at the terribly expensive rate of $20 a month. Places are limited, and Allies / Trading partners have precedence. A concern I have is that after finally getting a leader or mage to a very high level, it is still possible for someone to sneak in and assassinate them, without any real hassels. Now, I'm not against assassination, I'll probably make use of it myself. But any leader worth assassinating would also be worth a bit of protection by the side who owns him/her. Thus my suggestion is for a protect order. The units carrying out the protect order (hereafter called the guards) will have the job of protecting the other unit (normally a leader). The guards will not be able to do any month long activities (ie working, producing etc) but will automatically move with the leader if the leader moves. I propose the affect of the guards to be twofold. 1) In any assassination attempt, the guard unit is considered combined with the leader. The assassination would still occur, but the person assassinated would be randomly chosen. Thus the odds on assassinating the leader would be dependent on how many guards you had, but there would probably have to be some sort of limit on numbers. 2) In a battle situation, any melee (non-missile) attack on the leader, would have a certain probability of instead being conducted against his guards. The probability would depend on things such as the leader having a horse, the guards having horses, the leader being set behind the flag, etc. One thing I wouldn't like to this order to do would be to make assassinations impossible. Other things would also have to be sorted out, can the guards fight as effectively in combat, and the like, but that's what this discussion board is for. If you have an opinion on this, tell us what you think. Derek McKinnon. The second with a leader with no skills. The second unit wants to study combat. Would the second unit gain a month of combat skill if the first unit trains the second? Yes, the unit studying will study twice as fast, so although after 1 month study the combat level will be one, the unit has 60 days of experience, not 30. Reaching level 2 then needs only one month study extra, after which he can train his previous teacher :-) -- The mail| Andre van Dalen demon...|uucp: andre@targon.uucp Tel: ++31 3473 65240 Siemens Nixdorf inf sys hits!.@&| adalen.via@sni.de Fax: ++31 3473 65212 Mijlweg 7, 4131 PJ --more--|nerv: adalen.via Vianen, The Netherlands ---------------------------------------------------------- Date: Sun, 4 Jun 1995 10:28:06 -0400 (EDT) From: Dail Rowe <dail@kitthan.gso.uri.edu> Subject: Re: training level one units--- On Sun, 4 Jun 1995, Andre van Dalen wrote: > > I have two units, one with a leader with skill level one in combat. I was under the impression that, in order for training to be effective, the training leader had to have a higher skill than the trained unit would acquire from the training. i.e. a level one leader could not train anyone - a level two leader could train someone as long as that training would not raise the trained unit to level two or above. Am I wrong on this one? Geoff? (Note: for all skill uses, it is skill level, not number of months of training, that counts. Thus, a unit with 1 month of training is the same as a unit with 2 months of training, since both have skill 1.) From the rules.. It's the level of the unit studying, NOT the level they would be after studying. A level 1 leader can teach level 0 people and lift them to 60 days experiance. Up
