Of to London in a couple of minutes, so this is a quick one from me. :-) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quest Helpline service. This helpline is chaired a by a panel of experienced Quest players, who will be available to answer any queries or solve any problems to do with Quest. Send e-mail to <godfrey2@cov.ac.uk> and give "Quest help" as the subject line. Contact me if you want to join the panel. <NB: Need different description from Chris Dickson> -------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "Bill the Hamster." <godfrey2@coventry.ac.uk> Chris Dickson at his home e-mail will be taking this over the summer. I don't know what his e-mail is. <'this' being the above helpline. Chris' address is above> > NB> So now my character lies dead. Another two page spread in his > name will be in the next newsletter. It's all a little embarassing > really, but so far no-one except you guys know about this. BG> I'm waiting for this double page spread. I've got the newsletter finished, apart from this. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri, 26 May 1995 18:46:34 +0100 (BST) From: "C.H.E.B." <ctc@coventry.ac.uk> > >CC> Really? Do tell ... I *hate* groups who steal from other groups. > PN> Flee, was the group in question, as far as I know they are about 24 turns > old and have already got a total death! Not that that will faze you at all, but > I think he's going to fight against Fenrisogg storm (something like that > anyway) so I doubt he'll pursue you. CC> Pity. I'm rather beginning to like people with hostile attitudes. Guy bumped into me in G8 last turn totally ruining something I'd been planning for 60 turns. Just have to console myself with killing three of his characters. Oh well. CC> Has anyone any idea why KJC have stopped answering all phone calls? They sent me someone elses turn with one of my G7 ones, while not sending my second G7 results, so I wanted to know what has happened. Nothing, just that bloody phone. Guess I'll just have to grab them at the pub meets. Oh if anyone *has* seen my Tourists, can I have them back please? I'm rather fed up with losing T Quests because of other people receiving my results before I do. Steve, could you explain more slowly how to find the end of one turn and the beginning of another to those people who put turns in envelopes. You know, something like "The first page has Quest printed on it with lots of asterisks - they go in a different envelope". I didn't think it was *that* difficult a concept. > >CC> BTW, Does anyone know what happens when you keep getting messages > >saying "You alliance is in danger of collapsing due to lack of members."? > > PN>Is that an official alliance? If so Hurrah, five official alliances! CC> Yeah, in G7. Actually, I think G7 has two. > CC> To the Eight Gods alliance. game 6. > Two of my groups have fought. I've compared this with your list of injuries > and experience. Let you know what happens when I've finished working it out. CC> Unfortunately after this I discovered that one group had been attacked by another group as well (hence the three deaths). So now I can't distinguish between my two groups fighting experience and the experience gained from the second fight (look, it makes sense to me). But from what I can gather your serious wounds etc are within your specified limits. NB> I need ideas of what you would like to see in a new open-ended fantasy CC> Well ... apart from the ideas I sent to you privately, I would certainly like a continuing challenge. As my group develops, then I would expect my 'opponents' to change too. Survival of the fittest is all very well, but I'd actually like some creatures to survive long enough to be a challenge to me. > > JPG> *grin* coincidentally the day I finish mine. :-) > CC> Luggage kill Josh ... ;-) > JPG> Night Shadow's priests cast Hiding, so Luggage haven't a chance of > finding them... CC> With a 99 sk thief and 86 awareness? I think so ... Start running .... > CC> Delighted Josh, but it was what he was saying which annoyed me, now > HOW he said it. > JPG> Well, no reply from Pete yet, so maybe it's all over? CC> Probably getting someone to explain what I said to him and why it was insulting ;-) > > CC> Kevin, _please_ get rid of that printer. PLEASE. I will discuss that > > JPG> Hate to disagree here Chris, but I don't mind the printing on the > JPG> *grin* changed my mind anyway.. they _are_ annoying... and I _still_ CC> You should have listened to me the first time, Josh. I'm *always* right. JPG> *grins* whatever, Chris. :-) > JPG> I shall certainly be at the Birmingham one. Which pub? Is Mark > Payne organising it? And, um, will I recognize anyone? :-) (I've > managed to miss meeting Chris in Coventry three times now I think... so I > haven't a clue what she looks like. :-) Met several other people though..) CC> Dubliner in Digbeth. Yes - get him to send you a map. I'm usually the only other woman there apart from Mark's girlfriend. I've got dark hair and glasses. Oh - and everyone else will be drooling over my 12 ACE's. Heh, heh, heh. > JPG> Chris, you get the award for the most massacred post of the day > (i.e. the one I inserted the most comments in.) CC> Does this mean I get to do an award speech? > JPG> My suggestion, for what it is worth... The character is _dead_, and > this happened in the game, therefore you should roleplay this fact out, > not replace him, and bring in Davinon. If you don't want the group CC> Sounds good to me. Perhaps the newcomer being a reincarnate of Colquin (or a twin). S/he and Davinion fight and D loses. Either gets kicked out for being a heel (rest of the group recognise his true character - or lack of it) or stays within the group, holding a grudge, ready to take over at the first sign of weakness. SA> (Send me your FAQ, Chris C... please...). CC> Version 2 after the hols. Version 1 now if you REALLY want it. > EJ> I don`t remember who it was that was on about their turns being sent > to someone else but you can now add me to the list, to cut a long story > disastorous. I understand mistakes can be made but isn`t this a little too > careless? CC> This is so careless you could stick a tail on it and call it a careless thing with a tail on it. > AH> An option largly ignored is getting involved in the game > newsletter. Admittedly I went ages without doing anything towards it, but CC> Guys, guys. I *edit* one! > > > CC> Has anyone come up with any ideas what to do with 100+ turn old > AH> How about randomly kicking out a character or two? =) Which gives me an CC> Haven't got the heart. But you've certainly set me thinking. Out starting fighter, in 56 sk fighter. Hmm .... > AH> Its called self-delusion - I'm quite good at it! =). CC> You have no idea how much I'm refraining from following up on that comment. You really don't. > > JPG> You don't need to eat?? What am I hunting for rations for then? I > AH> You really should have read Chris's FAQ. =). CC> Shouldn't everyone ;-) > > CC> I have recently had the misfortune to recieve my results on that > > double-sided printer. ABSOLUTELY HIDEOUS. > AH> I hate them, unless of course KJC are going to charge less for them - CC> Just so Steve can pass on our reactions, can we have a quick handcount how many people actually WANT their results like this? I vote NO. > AH> Does anyone have any ideas on racial restrictions for weapons? Can > JPG> It might just be my imagination, but I found that my dwarves had > problems with Longbows... Great Axes though did not seem to be much of a CC> One of my groups (I forget which) is equipped totally with Great Axes. That includes the mages! > JPG> Well, until next time, bye bye, happy Questing! :-) (And good luck > witth exams to those who still have them... how'd todays go Chris C?) CC> Don't ask. But if I can avoid a #40 resit fee, I'll be happy. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri, 26 May 1995 20:21:11 GMT From: editor@elbon.demon.co.uk (Paul Noble) AH> Can anyone tell me if KJC charge for fax turns? As the Hertford Post Office seem to have been subject to a, no doubt highly top secret PN> I think if you fax them when they ain't there then you don't get charged but if they are there you do!? Something like that anyway. CC> Baldor aligned. Not by design, just wasn't in a town with a Novala quest and got swung around. PN> Whats wrong with Mr Baldor? My G14 group is attempting to be a Baldor follower, I've got as far as -13 to Baldor so far. PN> I wish I'd built my groups to role play from the beginning, like NB has, it is most interesting, I think the evil brother should take control even if it isn't good for the group. AH> On a similar note to RoJ's idea - would anyone here take their group to a tourney with something like a 10,000gp prize? To make it more apealing put limits on spells so only self effecting or no-damage spells allowed. Does anyone think I would get a good response? PN> I don't think I'd go for such a tourney, mind you even a mage group if severly toughed and Garthranic may be a match. PN> One thing that interested me was CC's comment on the Battle Lust, I was talking to James about this and he said that he'd been casting it while having a 0% flee and it wouldn't effect anything, it was just a Beserk AH> Also, since alliances can now own shops I presume the code is there for others to own shops too. I would *LOVE* to own a tavern, I could not care less if I made sod all money or had to pay something obscene to buy the shop. Maybe its just me, but there might be a demand for people to own a bit of Kharne no matter how small. PN> brings up things like price wars and players robbing the opposition to get a bigger market share, it's also another use for the news and rumours: It is rumoured that the Black Death Inn has been selling unicorn flesh as rations, come to the Business Tavern, we won't horse around. AH> I have also heard of a bug which leads to a whole party being made IMMORTAL. I have asked some people to see if it possibly is true, if it looks like it may be (as I suspect no one will be willing to lose a whole group testing it) I will post PN> This can't be the Life Bringer can it? If it is I'm going to try it soon in G14, thats what my Baldor Bonus is for, who else would like that ponce Baldor? PN> Nice one Josh, good digest that was. JPG> Cheers, but it isn't me that produces the quality. :-) It's you lot... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Sun, 28 May 1995 10:47:10 +0100 (BST) From: Lord of Spoons <A.O.Hooper@herts.ac.uk> > >PN> I just got a 58 skill mage in G14. > >JPG> How much for? > PN>1001gp > JPG> *mumbles 'git' under his breath*.. my maximum this turn was 42. :-( AH> Hoorah! My recruit-a-pathetic-mage-a-thon is over, I got a 54sk EM in G16 for 1001gp's. >JPG> *mumbles 'git' under his breath* > No clues yet as to what I'm up to. (I don't think many are needed). AH> One thing I havent seen done is a game where it is a mixture of a wargame and a questy sort of game. You could have the power gamers conquering the world with vast armies while role-players could move characters around against the background of a mighty war. Both groups could interact with each other to an extent with characters leading armies, being spies, assasins, or adventuring regardless of the war. I dont know how it would work out but it will certainly be different. > > RO> hours...for it normally takes exactly one week to get my results back. > CC> Can't you play with a more local company? AH> I'm more 'local' with KJC but it still takes a week to get my turns back :( > NB> So now my character lies dead. Another two page spread in his > name will be in the next newsletter. It's all a little embarassing > really, but so far no-one except you guys know about this. AH> I'd say go with his brother into the all embracing arms of Ythcal, then again I'd be rather tempted to get a doppleganger to replace Ellspeth Grayswandir (my main character) if she died =). > JPG> It might just be my imagination, but I found that my dwarves had > problems with Longbows... Great Axes though did not seem to be much of a > hassle... AH> I am begining to get a collection of Great Axes from other groups dead stumpys so I supose I could put them to good use. I also seem to think dwarves have trouble with longbows. If all characters had a spare weapon would they use it in melee if their first weapon got melted? AH> Ok another question - is awaken cast automatically if ranked first or only if someone has been put to sleep? > JPG> Well, until next time, bye bye, happy Questing! :-) (And good luck > witth exams to those who still have them... how'd todays go Chris C?) AH> Eeek! Just over a week and a half before mine kick in <shudder>. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 31 May 1995 13:21:33 +0200 From: Jan-Ivar Hansen_Bergli <jihb0101@toll.telemax.no> CMD)Well... I like It's A Crime!, and I've played 3 games from start to finish, and want to play more....... JIHB)I agree that It's A Crime WAS a fun game to play.. The problem these days is that KJC seems to have difficulties filling up the new games, so it takes forever before you get a setup.....just to find out that 70% of the gangs in your vincinity are inactive!!!! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 31 May 95 14:50:18 EDT From: Keith Hanna <U9418997@Queens-Belfast.AC.UK> Concerning the suggestion about a bug in the program eanbling a group to become immortal (I can't remember who posted it) I would be willing to test it on my group. I have just re-started playing in game 5 after getting my first group up to over 100 turns (highlight was the 143 skill BT untill they brought in the 99 max and also the 15 suits of +3 armour!!!!). I have a quest for life so it would not be a 'waste of money' for me to attempt this as it may be for others!! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- JPG> Well folks, sorry it's a bit shorter than usual, I guess everyone is going away for summer hols now! I shall be here up until the 22nd of June. If anyone would like to take over the digest for the duration of the summer holidays (i.e. til the beginning of October) I'd really appreciate it if you could contact me in good time. I'd like to keep the digest running in my absence this time if possible. Thanks. :-) Happy Questing all... >>-Josh-> "Dreamer... Nothing but a dreamer..." Up
