ATLANTISv2 atl-players-digest #83 From: csd@microplex.com (Christian Daudt) Date: Tue, 06 Jun 1995 00:00:00 +0000 I thought I was going to get thousands of responses asking me to keep this digest (maybe I just wanted to massage my ego ;-)) But I received enough responses, so I'll keep the digest going. ---------------------------------------------------------- From: tim.hruby@his.com (Tim Hruby) Date: Mon, 05 Jun 1995 15:41:08 Subject: Re: More Fake Spells > You thought you got away with just a few, well you're wrong, coz we have > devised a whole lot more. Get a load of this! Please stop spamming the whole list with the stuff. The list already gets enough traffic that is of marginal use at best, and is generally nothing more than a waste of time for all but the one or two factions it is actually directed at. Still, most of us have to keep reading it in case there is an important announcement from Geoff, or someone is trying to get in touch with us. I can't stop you or anyone else if you decide to persist, but you will go into my kill file (I've already done this for the Halleluahgobble people), and then I won't be able to see anything useful you post, any questions you ask, or even get any mail you may personally send to me. So don't be surprised in the future if I (and many others like me) don't respond to your missives. Disclaimer: This is not a flame, it's just a request and warning, though perhaps not as polite as I could have written it if I had devoted more time and thought. If I had wanted to flame you, believe me, you would have felt the heat of harsh and scathing words. ---------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 5 Jun 95 19:54:35 EDT From: schissel@math.cornell.edu (Eric Schissel - grad - Barbasch) Subject: ATLANTIS v2: would like to see a sample first-orders i thought i followed the sample orders format given in the rules that i had, but the computer didn't understand a word i said. would anyone please send me, if they still have a copy, the order list they sent on their very first turn in this or a prior game? If you are planning on buying any leaders, can you mail me and let me know howmany. From this I willl mail back the list and let you know the demand as it stands. From this you may want to modify your request, or just give up. Alternatively, you can send me what you think the demand is and I'll compare it with the notes I have. I DO NOT want names or faction numbers, just something like : AC 3 LDR I will tally all the responses and mail back the total I get. It won't be gospel, but a rough estimate for you, and maybe other newbie factions, to get holdof a suitable number. One point, I don't want to know about HEL. Someone has worked out that it is around 8 to 1, to 11 to 1 depending upon each turn's request. Date: Tue, 6 Jun 95 13:44:07 EDT I have to find fault with the logic presented about the only reason for developing stealth is that you have something to hide. Frankly, I think every mage is smart to develop a little stealth, and here's why: There are two ways to defend yourself from being ripped off in this game - develop high obs so you can see all of the thieves, or develop some stealth so that the theives can't see you. Mages are particularly vulnerable to predation by theives and thugs because they need all of their money to develop magic, and spending the amount of cash to develop a leader to a level of obs higher than what the city guard has is a real drain. Developing stealth, on the other hand, gives you some protection at even a low level, while allowing a mage to study his trade without fear of being victimized by some thief or killed by some jealous warlord. So let the trial of Tiny begin. See if he's stolen anything. So far we have a single accusatory voice and many character witnesses defending the accused. The legal opinion of Mr. Lunchnick's Litigators is that stealth is not a crime, but libel is. We'll see you in court. The syntax is "FACTION <type> [<type>]" or "FACTION GENERIC".
