ATLANTISv2 atl-players-digest #86 From: csd@microplex.com (Christian Daudt) Date: Thu, 08 Jun 1995 00:00:00 +0000 I thought I was going to get thousands of responses asking me to keep this digest (maybe I just wanted to massage my ego ;-)) But I received enough responses, so I'll keep the digest going. ---------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 7 Jun 1995 17:41:47 +0200 From: Ole Guttorm Jensen <guttorm@kom.auc.dk> Subject: Wand of Fire Greetings! And the auction in Atlantis City continues... I have received quite a few offers of 500 silver and one of 501 silver (very funny), but to days leading offer is 600 silver (as there was only one offer of this ammount the faction in question now know that it leads the race. Congratulations!). But you still have a chance to beat this offer! Remember that you by dazzling an average of 26 enemies gets the same advantage as having 26 swords and their cost is about 3000 silver! I am aiming to move southwards to hex 3,19, so I would appreciate if anyone who doesn't want me to move there, to mail me and let me know why. I am NOT a war faction, I will be Magic/Trade this turn, and I am offering the following services : Wagon Enchantment .. cost to be decided, Wands of Fire .. cost to be decided, and other gadgets to come when I decide that I'm going to sell them. If you have any interest in these two services, let me know! I will produce other items soon, but for the moment, I am keeping them to myself! Final note, due to the amazing properties of these items, you will be looking at prices around $500 and up! Tiny is a mage that is simply getting plagued by the SO CALLED police. From what I have gathered together, they have no way of spotting any so called thieves and assassins as they have VERY LOW OBS! I AM NOT GOING TO BUY A LEADER THIS TURN! I've decided not to! I have had an overwhelming response from TWO people who are going to ask for 7LDR's between them! This is some kind of start I suppose. I've virtually given up on this! I am trying to help the newbies by being a mediator to working out the demand for you, but I'm not getting anywhere! If someone else wants to try and work out the demand, go ahead. I quit! Regards Dave ---------------------------------------------------------- From: "D.J. Strout" <jstrout@UCSD.EDU> Subject: spells wanted Most heartfelt greetings, Two of my Clan are in ready to learn spells. Normally this would cost us each $100 and a month's work. Silver is precious, but so too is time. Therefore, we would be willing to pay up to $120 to any mage who will give us an appropriate spell. This is a great deal for you, because it costs you no time -- it is, as they say, easy money. And it is a good deal for us, because it saves us time and costs only a little extra money. The spells we require are those castable with Body 1, *OR* with Energy 1 (but not requiring both). All offers being equal, we will accept the first mage to respond. Of course, if you wish to undercut the competition, we will of course remain open to cheaper offers until tomorrow morning. Date: Wed, 7 Jun 1995 19:27:36 +0000 (GMT) Hi there! I've done the following: formed a unit, given it some money and a horse, and moved it from the location where I am WITHOUT GIVING IT A PERSON!!! My question is what happens to it? -the game forgets about it (therefore I've lost it) -the unit stays in the same place next turn (so I could now give it a man and start doing something -or...??? The report has returned the number of the unit, however I haven't got a report for the new location of the unit, nor do I "see" the unit at my location. Answers here, or straight back to me! Thanks in advance. ---------------------------------------------------------- From: "D.J. Nope! Obviously a month long order takes a month to do, so how can you do two months worth of orders in only one month? (Have you found the Time Machine Spell???) > 2)..must you claim money before using it in orders list...ie. can you list > your orders..buy:whatever followed by claim:whatever. Basically..can you > use money you haven't claimed? Strange question. I read it as in two parts : a) What the order of the turn processed in? b) Can you buy without claiming the money? Well, the orders are read in and processed in the order specified in the rules(that is claim before buy). So no matter where you put the claim order in yourturn, it will get processed before the buy. Secondly, You can't buy anything without the resources to do it! IE you can't buy items or men with supposed money you are GOING to claim. > 3)..if my orders are incorrect will they get sent back or just ignored? Ignored. If an order is incorrect, it will give you an error in your report. > 4)..how long for each turn?...1 week? Usually 1 week, yes! > 5)..Why are people mailing this list asking for people to contact them when > all they have to do is use the "find" command to get an e-mail address? People sometimes change address in the middle of the game which is not immediately put on the list. Usually in dire conditions, it's easier to simply mail the list than sift through all the names/addresses in the player file and stillget the wrong address. In other cases, the list messages say things like, "Whoever owns hex x,y please contact me" IE I don't know who owns this area so please contact me! > 6)..Am i likely to get killed quickly if i just wander around? Not yet!!! > 7)..I start in Atalntis...if i move north or whatever do i leave Atlantis > and am in danger in the wilderness? When you move from AC, you end up another city, again with City guards to protect you. Here you are safe, for a while (There are factions ready to kill the guards in the surrounding areas, so again beware). The wilderness does hold some dangers, wandering monsters, other factions, so just keep a small band of warriors at the front (with the BEHIND 0 order) and keep your wits about you. > 8)..What should a starting character do exactly to get off the ground(not > literally!)?. I would say the first aim is to make yourself self-sufficient. You will need about 4 to 5 men for every leader. Your men can work, (at about $15 each - approx) and the excess $5 can support your leader. From here, the world and the decisions are yours to explore. > 9)..Are all these questions annoying you? :) > Not at all. Mail me again if you need help in any way. (I am trying to write astart up guide, so if you have any questions, you will be helping both of us!) > Right...thats it for about 10 seconds...then i will have thought of about > 100 other questions to ask!!.. Heard yea the latest rantings from that nave Frostbight? Guildenstern: Brother, nay! What hath this jolly rouge to say for himself then? Rosenfeild: The poor nave doth tire of the grim parchments that do cross his desk. Such fare as "Would the owners of unit 1056 please contact anthonyc@cet.co.jp". He claims they dull his palette for life itself. Day in, day out, like the never ceasing tides of the frozen Dezhou coast. Guildenstern: What other manner would he have his letters then? I too, am lost in a sea of "Whould all units entering (27,3) please inform me of their intentions." But such are the grains of sand that seed this the summer of our discontent. Rosenfeild: The nave doth desire that all letters and such from this day forward, be penned in the likes of Shakespeare! Guildenstern: Cry Havoc and let loose the dogs of war! This matter is absurd, good man! What manner of creature would seed his letters with meaningless simile and metaphor as to confuse the day as night? Rosenfeild: Alas, that is the very medicine he doth perscibe! That further correspondance be placed under the yoke of iambic pentameter and be rendered like the eastern winds to the human ear. Henceforth, would said words become, "Oh! 1056, Oh! 1056! What art thou name! Quicky, peasant lest I stike you down in vain!" Guildenstern: Maddness! The maillist would never stand for it! Like pearls before swine, I leave it in your eye! Rosenfeild: The world is home to more than all your philosophy and religion could ever dream! Your very example would take the cloak of "There is something rotten in the state of (27,3)! Send caution before thee, careless wanderers!" Guildenstern: Maddness, still I say!
