CASE FOR THE PROSECUTION Every week we hear the same old pleas of innocence from Tiny the mage. And every week we see his name appear on the list of 'potential' thieves and assassins of The Atlantis Police Department. When will this circular debate end? Why does Tiny object to being called a 'potential' theif/assassin? I will now tell you why... he obviously has something to hide! Why else would he skulk around the alleys of Atlantis City, trying to hide himself from all and sundry? From the times :- > It seems to be the cast that any unit that has even stealth level > 1 is branded a thief of killer. THIS IS NOT ALWAYS THE CASE. I > have a unit called Tiny, he is a peace loving mage quietly > researching the realms of magic I ask you, Ladies and Gentlemen, and members of the jury, why would anyone want to learn Stealth unless they planned to steal or assassinate? > Now he hides in the shadows scared to show his face for fear of > retribution. Never again can he call Atlantis city his home, not > until this slander is proven wrong. Yes, Tiny seems very good at hiding. Too good in fact... > Let the Atlantis Police come forward and make its case for this > destruction of character. Ershwin has nothing to do with the Atlantis Police Department himself (after all HE is not a villain), but if no others take up the challenge, then Ershwin feels he must, as a citizen ready to stand up for what is right and decent. > I what compensation. Or at least a public apology in the times/ > alt_players. Again, I reiterate, WHY does tiny, object to being termed a 'potential' theif? For that is what he is. That is what everyone is. That is what Ershwin is... However there is a difference between Ershwin and Tiny. Erhswin walks tall and proud, unafraid to show his face. He does not seek to hide himself - for he has nothing to hide. Tiny could, if he so wished, do likewise. He could cast aside his veil. He could FORGET or could REVEAL UNIT. However he chooses not too. Yes, he CHOOSES not too. This is not a case of a man hounded by the Police, but of a man who does willfully and purposely choose to hide himself away from the peace loving citizens of Atlantis City; a man who obviously prefers to frequent the seedier parts of the city... And we must ask ourselves, what are his motives? And why does he protest so loudly? > LET THE TRIAL BEGIN. Indeed! Lamb" <LAMBM@chemistry.byu.edu> Subject: Re: Atlantis - The trial of Tiny. It strikes me as odd that there is so much tumult over Stealthy units in Atlantis City or elsewhere, for that matter. Factions offer OBS training, and one teaching consortium flat out refused to train one of my units in Stealth, saying that it was against principles. And, amusingly enough, I just noticed one of my units on the Atlantean Police Department list, even though his stealth is below level 3 and he is thus harmless! I support him out of my Times revenues anyway, as he's supposed to be no more than an invisible courier for money and other valuables. In order to be as ironic and painstakingly obvious as possible, if people want to discourage thievery and other skulduggery, why don't they simply implore some faction with a single member of OBS 5 to do a DECLARE DEFAULT ALLY? That would singlehandedly eliminate all possible knavery in the City of Atlantis. The reactions from factions living through dishonest actions would probably be entertaining, and there is always the possibility that it would lower the population there somewhat, driving people out into the real (fictitious) world. If the benefactory faction was given even thank- you offerings of perhaps $1 per faction, they would still probably find it profitable, if any profit could be greater than their own moral satisfaction. Well, just an idea, fellow players. Do with it what you wish. ---------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 06 Jun 1995 23:41:41 -0500 (EST) From: RCC6@JAGUAR.UOFS.EDU Subject: Riding skill A quick question for some of you more learned players. The Riding skill will add a bonus of up to +2 in the combat skill to a unit in a city, plains, tundra, or desert hex. The skill bonus only goes to the combat skill, not to Longbow or some other skill being used in combat. Right? Thanks. ---------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 7 Jun 95 09:25:34 BST From: dean@memex.co.uk (Dean Burton) Subject: Re: Atlantis - The trial of Tiny. Tiny has stealth simply to try and hide from people who would steal from him. So far he has lost two wagons. Stealth level 1 was obtained and better was going to be studied but silver became a problem after losing the first wagon. So study in stealth was out. A deal was made with a faction with high observation so as to stop the theivery As for fogetting stealth, i will not. If I leave AC i will need a high stealth so that i can hide from the many bad units wishing to visit harm on Tiny. Being labeled a 'potential' theif makes it hard to trade. So clear Tiny. Let anyone who has seen Tiny steal, which is impossible in AC with only sleath 1, step forward. Let the Atlantis Police show themselves.
