UPI News Update - Wk 195-23 IMP Jax This is Ran Dather replacing Joe Bob Briggs while he covers The Trial of Fat-Boy. Today Lord Joss, gov. of Jax, broke ground on what will be the new football stadium and home of the newly acquired football team, the "Imperial Stormtroopers" <ooc: couldn't resist the joke>. The Stormtrooper franchise was purchased and is brought in from the Inner Empire. Also annonced was the acquisition of star running-back, Emmett Smythe from the Dallas system (Inner Empire). Present at the groundbreaking ceremony was the Rev. Bubba Smith, of the Cathedral to *BOB* here at Jax, Our Lady of the Holy Monster Truck Rally. Rev. Smith had this to say: "Yea verily doth *BOB* love football, for is it not written, blessed is he who kicketh back on Monday night, poppeth the top on a cold one, and watcheth the big game." Rumors abound that several companies and possibly even a few alien races will also be acquiring their own franchises. There are rumors that even the PFM, with their love of combat, have been studying this human sport and admire it as another form of combat. Maintain your combat interval! Celtian Partisans, stand to and secure LOE. Enough Celtian blood has been spilled by the demons. Division! Move out! We can see the huge armored columns lifting up and beginning the crossing of the Hammerfest sea. A number of Celtian partisans are swimming out to fight the Foelians, in disregard for their instructions to stay back. <camera pans to sea where several Celtians are seen swimming on the surface>. We can see a squadron of ISP Dreadnoughts have entered low orbit <camera pans up to sky where the outlines of dreadnoughts are becoming visible in the sky> to catch any FOE ships which try to flee the impending massacre. We understand similar scenes are happening at other bivouac sites on the planet, as the components of IMP III Corp. launch their attack. The ISP has refused to allow civilians (reporters) to accompany the military units into the firefight, but have left several troop carriers to bring the Press Train into the colony, once it is secured and snipers are neutralized. Press transports will be waiting in low orbit to save travel time. Our transport is about to leave now, so this is P. Arnet signing off. Our next transmissio will be from the liberated colony of Undersea Base. P. It still belongs to an affiliation, but no one receives printouts for it. Richard was suggesting the elimination of this, groups would be required to pay for all colonies affiliated with them. In exchange, RTG would allow them to be run infrequently. When the changeover from BSE I to BSE II happened, I consolidated a half dozen colonies into one to save on turn costs. It was not cost effective for me to have a bunch of small colonies. I am guessing that most actively run colonies will still want to run every four weeks anyhow. I don't think that RTG would see a huge drop off in cash. A good compromise would be to allow the longer frequency for colonies class 5 and smaller. The place that RTG stands to make real money is in getting and keeping new players once they have completed their overhaul of BSE (III?). And once they enter the modern world and deal efficiently with e-mail turns, they can have players from around the world who can get turns just as fast as players in the US. There is a big market out there. What the game needs is good publicity. Guess I am getting off topic... Under our law, each of the agrieved has the right to prosecute. The IMP asked us to officiate because we are neutral, and even the enemies of the IMP, the RIP & FOE are welcome to come and have their day in court with the accused. The alternative would have been to extradite the accused to each and every aggrieved race, and allow each to hold it's own separate trial. That would've taken far longer. > We also beg the Court to consider bail for our clients. Our clients > are not a flight risk, and they have to help us prepare their defense. > This they cannot do cooped up in those tiny, airless, hay-strewn, > rat infested holes the governor calls prison cells. <IMP prosecutor> Your Honor, considering the severity of the charges, and the tremendous numbers of innocent males, females, children, etc., that the accused have murdered, we ask that no bail be set. <Judge> It is the decision of this court, that for the safety of the defendents, to protect them from the angry mobs waiting outside to rip them limb from limb. That due to the large numbers of murders of which the defendents have been accused, and other serious charges, the defendents be held without bail. ------------------------------ End of BSE Digest V195 #218 *************************** BSE Digest - All items Copyright (c) 1995, by their respective authors, permission is granted to redistribute as long as proper credit is given.
