The last line of Hagbard Celine's message has been corrected by the USS Department of Protocol to "Message Repeats...WDDDDDDE..We are Celine..." H.C., Please be more careful in the future. Elijah 7 Jacobi, USS APD ------------------------------ From: btb4@lehigh.edu (B T Braun) Date: Fri, 09 Jun 1995 18:15:18 EDT Subject: Tales of Sweet Celine TO: The Inhabitants of the Region of Known Space Termed "The Capellan Periphery" and Adjoining Regions of Space FROM: A. Milquetoaste, USS Research Coordinator, USS Department of Research, Which Likes Submitting to The Iron Will (TM) of the USS Department of Retail Defense and Wholesale Surplus It has come to my attention that there is a growing misunderstanding over the status of one Hagbard Celine, USS Fernando Poo. While I would never claim (under threat of the Imperial Sanity Clause restricting affiliation corrdinatorships) to actually UNDERSTAND Mr. Celine, market sales of USS radios have been declining due to the rumors. Let me assure you that the USS only sells the finest knock-offs of an SSL copy of an unauthorized WCE version of an ISP modified COM model radio. Any difficulties you may have in understanding Hagbard are, therefore, not the fault of USS equipment; he just talks that way.. The following first biographical installment will hopefully begin to elucidate why. Celine: Profile of a Youth A mere 28 years ago, a young male child was creched to the Universal Stellar and Services Dodecaplex Prime. All partners in the twelve-member group marriage that founded the USS contributed genetic material to this, their firstborn. Using advanced USS multizygotic pseudo-cloning techniques, it was possible for all partners to contribute a portion of the youth's genetic makeup in proportion to the number of USS shares held by that partner. For the purposes of romance, the determination of gender was left to a random number generator. The boy had every advantage: The finest schools, the best environment, full access to the complete line of USS robotic products. He was considered by all to be a prodigy of the first order. The minor incidents that marred his childhood seemed, at first, coincidental. Who would even think to implicate a six-year old child in the Lexes Ore incident at Old New York on Old Old Earth? If anything, the fact that he had an uncanny knack of surviving the major catastrophes that seemed to follow him throughout his formative years merely demonstrated to his parents just how truly exceptional was the child. There were certain adults who did notice some aberrant behavior on the part of young Hagbard. After recognizing the hazards associated with cohabiting with the youth, his parents decided to send Hagbard to a prestigious boarding school. The following is a partial transcript of an emergency parent teacher conference between one of Hagbard's fathers, Elijah 3 Jacobi (two of the prestigious Elijah "n" Jacobi pseudoclones fathered Hagbard) and the school's Master of Head (MH): MH: It is my understanding that you are aware of my reasons for punishing the young master? E3J: The punishment seems to me to be a bit severe. I can understand why you require Hagbard to undergo a full course of Cybernetic Personality Enhancement Implants (TM) prior to readmission, but forcing him to write "I will never be cruel to dogs and cats again" 10,000 times seems a bit too much. The boy has an active mind. Anyway, he thought the animals were fully anesthetized prior to his "experiments". MH: That's not what he says under truth drugs.... Historical note: It was a mere three days later that the Master of Head committed suicide in a most gruesome fashion. However, the USS Dodecaplex Prime assures you that it is quite common in the Inner Empire for individuals of some social standing to choose to end their own lives by tying themselves to a chair, blindfolding themselves, stabbing themselves in the back 147 times with a melon baller, pouring molten gold down their own throats, and then throwing themselves from the heights of a really big cliff. Hagbard, it turned out, was one of those rare individuals who liked Cybernetic Personality Enhancement Implants(TM). He shopped the most chic boutiques. He ordered them from cut rate mail order catalogues. When the family's personal surgical staff finally began refusing to install them, he went to back alley quacks. When his demands became too much even for them, he began building and installing his own. The only really positive outcome from all of this was that, for several years, the Inner Empire experienced an almost unprecedented lapse in terrorist attacks. By adolescence it was becoming apparent that something had to give. Soon. In a really big way. Although the exact circumstances are still unknown, credible sources have implicated Hagbard in the horrific events leading to the Promixa Centauri Anomalous Collapsar Disaster (Rights reserved - soon to be a major Doosnie childrens' holo). The same sources suggest that it was only through his parents' Substantial Influence In The Imperial Courts (TM) that the widely considered to be innocent Bangladesh Googolplex was implicated, and subsequently executed, in his stead. But Hagbard had to go. His parents had produced numerous more promising offspring since his birth, and he had become a liability to the organization. And so, with no fanfare, Hagbard was sent to live with the rest if the Inner Empire chattel, sociopaths, degenerates, perverts, undesirables, and Republicans. Thus it was that he was sent to the Universal Science and Services Capellan Periphery offices. To be continued... I pay for every one of mine every month due to a shortage of players in the GTT, including 2 that have I've not issued an order for in over 6 months because I can't get power to them right now and they are not critical (other than the blasted cost of maintaining them until there is a player ready for them.) - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ .. Once there, you can do as much as you want before leaving. If you END the turn in the square, then others can see you. Here's the deal for those colony governors that are interested - send me a copy of your current market report (electronic) and I'll make it available via an email requester setup so that somebody could send a message to say infobot@bse.net which the subject of 'send GTT Gaspree' and the bot will mail them back a copy of the Gaspree's market report. For this to work the reports must be as current as what a player would get on their turns. For the testing phase their will be no cost, if it works and people are interested in using it the will most likely be a stellar charge associated with the service. Anyone interested? Then send me some market reports (including all of the details you'd get from a standard market report in the game) so I'll have some content to send out. The Samillian Hegemony wishes to begin a conversation with the governments of the known universe so as to coordinate policy throughout the galaxy with regards to Stargates. Samillian scientists have recently discovered how to turn the Solar Array on and off as well as how to restrict access to it by Stargates on the net. This discovery came as a surprise to us and caught us unprepared. We had assumed that many more months of study would be required before this abilty would be usuable. We certain that the parameters of Solar Array operation have been published throughout the galaxy. It is inclination of the Samillian Hegemony to limit the number of Stargates connected to the Solar Array and to auction off the utilization of this artifact. Obviously, we will connect 8 gates, but the question is open as to how many more we will provide power for. The duration of licenses, the method of payment, et cetera are all under review. There is some inclination on the part of our government to allow for the original 8 licensees to have input on the question of expansion. The Samillian Hegemony have long maintained close, friendly, and mutually benefical relationships with a number of governments throughout the Universe. We desire to enter into dialogue on the many and various matters that lie before us in this regard. Diplomats of our government have already contacted several soveriegn states but unfortunately the constraints of time have limited our scope. We therefore solicit the response of all governments on this important matter. Please respond directly to this office and not the Grand Vizier. Thank you for you consideration and we look forward to an enlighted dissussion. ------------------------------ From: RIPLord@aol.com Date: Fri, 9 Jun 1995 21:50:00 -0400 Subject: Neil's Back I am back and alive in Hawaii.
