(grin) Yes, I have had to become something of a secret monger on _certain_ information. This is the way it is in all the PBM games I've been in over the last 9 years. There will always be info that is guarded jealously and there is info that is well known. It'd be great if all the information out there was available to all, but there will always be players out there that like their secrets. >> a certain group. This sort of mentality hurts low and mid >power level characters. Only the players who have been adventuring for a >long time or have alot of adventurers can get this information. In AG there are many ways to obtain 'new' information. One of the best ways I can think of for low-mid power characters to get some sort of 'secret' info is by trying out different path settings at different sites. The popular sites (Skree, Marikhold, Dead Hills, etc) are very well mapped out, but the Undercity, Black Ship, Swamp, and Azcor's Tunnel do not have that much information on them. Low-mid level characters can go level 1-5 at these sites and have much better chances of finishing the mapping expedition than a high powered group would have. Other things lower characters can get info on: new ancient writings and deciphering them, using the Special Action visit (any place), bug Hugh (he's already heard an earful from the older players and might be susceptible to newer players :) ), or finding special quests that characters can take. These are merely suggestions, I know some players scoff at even thinking of adventuring to difficult sites. >> Yah, it's annoying (I still don't know what Sten's Ulrick talisman or >> whatever does, but I really haven't asked him). I want the I did not mean that an online service is required to gain 'secret' information. I rarely show up on the AOL roundtable, and I do not have GEnie. When I had GEnie, I showed up mainly just to chat with friends I made through AG and to BS about fights and adventures. Every now and then something said would be of interest, but that was rare. The main reasons I did attend roundtables was that Hugh was there for us to bug and to chat with other players I know. Perhaps what I should have said was that you would gain a better 'feel' for some aspects in AG by attending a roundtable as Hugh is there to field questions. [me on power word against vampires available at Marikhold] > If it's out there, and everybody can get to it, why not just tell > people? If you ask Hugh to change things, then you should also. I did not advocate getting an online service and spending money to get 'secrets.' I believe you missed my wink face ;) after what I said in my previous post. The suggestion on spending money for online services to garner 'secret' info was made in jest. But I suppose it could be taken either way. :) My buddy Paz is a middleman who shows up on occassion at the GEnie RTC, but almost all of his privy information is through email, diplos, belonging in the groups his characters are in, or an occassional phone call. People he knows JUST TELL HIM info and he soaks it up. I don't think Dave has ever had to 'trade' info for other info. I guess he's a special kinda guy. =) Mike (Goldy, etc) ***** Subject: RE: AG stuff From: sean <sean@alpha2.csd.uwm.edu> me: >> Perhaps if you asked Ripjack through a diplo he'll tell. :) Sean writes: >Then again he might not. :) This is the crux of the problem. Some of the older players like to share certain information with new(er) players, but there are older players who prefer keeping to themselves. >> him some of my own inside info for it. The only problem with Paz(Dave) has already told me the Manor is mainly a roleplaying thing right now. Probably first thing Hugh will do is let the Manor hold more items for Ripjack. As for the Purple and Gold scroll, I think Paz will probably let everyone know what it does. [me mentioning making 7th and 8th ranked teams in tourneys NPC teams as cannon fodder instead of having PC teams get throttled] >First, I do not remember any NPC's being alowed into a tourney. NPCs are usually used as filler for a group. I suspect that Tolstoy normally enters every tourney though as he's the 'NPC scribe'. As for Bessy, I think bOb the cRazY hirEd heLpEr snuck himself in! Hugh needs to keep a better eye on his minions.... >So what you want is still easy wins for upper level characters? I also >have a character who went out in two rounds in the tourney, no complaints >however. I know things that I can do to improve him, he is a half elf! No, I do not want player characters that are overpowered by 1000-3000 power in the top group. They go 0-2 and stood no chance at all. The top group situation will get even worse if characters above 4000 power drop out of AG or decide not to participate. This will bump up more teams that are overpowered even worse into the top group to fight teams like Sten/Coeus, Asa/Graykor, Golden/Paz, etc. If there was a power limit on the top group that'd be great, but this penalizes that small minority of players who should have free will to choose who they would like to partner with (say Sten would have to go digging for a 1500 power partner that would end up just standing around since he'd be so much slower). >I did mean +/- 12 inches from your height.
