I don't even know [snip-Todd continuing his rant on not telling all when it comes to benefits from scrolls] Perhaps if you asked Ripjack through a diplo he'll tell. :) I did trade him some of my own inside info for it. I traded him the power word against vampires so he would tell me what the Glowing Topaz scroll did. Maybe it's our own little game of keeping certain information only within a certain group. To break in, you have to offer something in return. Yah, it's annoying (I still don't know what Sten's Ulrick talisman or whatever does, but I really haven't asked him). Who knows, get on the GEnie or AOL roundtables, spend some real world dollars for connect time, and garner some of this info! ;) (or...be like my buddy Paz, he is sort of a 'middle man' and gets info on everything! He knows what all the items do cause he's got connections!) BTW, the power word for vampires Fenrir and I deciphered (through years of collecting all alphabet symbols) and the writing is available to everyone at Marikhold (at least that's where one of my characters ran into it). So, you all have access to it if you wish to go looking for it. ;) And before I forget, Ripjack picked the Ciston Manor House for his tourney prize, and not the Purple and Gold scroll. Paz will most likely pick the scroll as his prize. Even though the power levels are skewed I do not see a >real good reason to have NPCs in the tourney, battle groups yes, but not >the tourney. No no no. :) The NPC teams would be the two lowest power groups for the top group. Chances are they will be overpowered by 1000-3000 power against teams 1 through 6. I have never seen an NPC win a tourney category. I think the top 8 teams from this tourney could all beat a team of 2 Bandit Lords even. So, a 7th ranked team of Killian/Roland would get demolished in 2 rounds, and an 8th ranked team of say Sadie/Takuan would also lose in 2 rounds. Basically these 2 NPC teams would serve as cannon fodder instead of 2 player character teams who spend $10 and get creamed for 4-10 experience points. Your thoughts on this one, Hugh? >Hmmm, Devote to Wokrob? Not for everyone. Hard to be a good or even >neutral character while being devoted to him. As for Dusty Reds... I Just trying to point out that Magic Resistance is easy to pick up even though only Dwarves start with it. Whereas a thick head/horned head and natural armor on a mino isn't easy to pick up. :) >> I agree. Needless to say I >was very slow to get back up! At the high levels (grin) most everyone is wearing platemail, though. So kick at any level is negated to light damage or no damage. Whereas the headbutt is not stopped by any helm (unless Hugh has changed it). >> As with any skill, you basically have to specialize in that and that >> alone to see some really good results. Even better would be to base >> your starting design and all of your training towards getting free >> headbutt levels, with using a weapon as a secondary matter. It can >Why specialize in a skill that seldom even goes off? I could see it if >everyone you fought was within 12 inches of your height but otherwise not. It _used_ to be 12 inches plus or minus your height for headbutt. But then Hugh changed it for just minos. It was like plus or minus 18-24 inches they could headbutt. I even heard of a Masher Herdling at 96" headbutting a midget halfling last year! I suspect that was a bug, though, and a one time occurance. :) Course it didn't help the halfling as he was deathblowed by the headbutt. :) Why 'specialize' in headbutt? That isn't exactly what I meant. Sorry for the wording....Your basic design and strategy is supposed to maximize headbutt use, but you are not to spend EP to train headbutt levels. You are to try and use headbutt as often as possible, but let it go up through use. So your training would aim more at cunning raises for free levels. Plus tack on as high a dex as possible. So right now I am looking at -- 13 -- 15 to start. That leaves me with 18 points for STR and STAM. Since STR is a higher multiple to raise than STAM, I'd go a little higher on it, but not so much as this design is aimed at, let's say in 2 years time I want platemail/no helm plus my weapon. My own preference is for a short range weapon that does around medium damage per blow. It must be short range as headbutt has to be used at short range. I'd like the warflail, but I think starting with a warhammer or handaxe would be better. You can always switch weapons later, but for now let's go warhammer. Ok, 2 years time. 5 cost to raise STR each time. I am looking at 12 raises. I want platemail with warhammer. 14 points encumbrance. I want to be at no encumbrance in 2 years time, so 14+10 = 24 STR. Starting STR will be 12. So, I have 12 13 6 15 to start. Next, height and weight. No doubt about it, I am going heavy weight and parrying 100%. Height, I am unsure on the range right now for headbutt on minos, but let's say it's 18 inches. 96"-18" gives me 78". So at 78" I can headbutt up to 96" person and down to 60" person. Yes, it's limiting, but I'd rather go on the high end as you'll be fighting all those wonderful 96" berserk ogres and minos who like to close to short range. And then it's headbutt time! Strategy. No armor and warhammer. 14 or 15 STR start wearing leather armor, then add on 1 more armor encumbrance for each STR raise. Basically charge into medium, close to short, use headbutt(9/9), attack 100% and parry 100% with warhammer. If wounded below a certain point, I'd stay at medium range and forget closing to short and using headbutt. Training. 1st year work on stats, primarily cunning for as many free headbutt raises as possible. 2nd year, with STAM above 15 I'd start thinking on picking up CM-Speed. You HAVE to get into short range now against all those other people with high dex/cun, or CM-Speed, or Init. This will also give you a lot of headbutt actions. 2 years time I should look like 24 21 21 25, speed 3 or so, headbutt at level ??? Devote to. I'd probably go Roegoth just for the energy increases. Hell, look at Rip. :) Anyways, that's the _premise_ behind a mino specializing in headbutt. I'd say he'll run 60-70% win-loss if run correctly. :) >I agree to this as well. Knowledge is half the fun in the game. If I >ever find anything out I like to inform people. Why should people hide >things from each other when Hugh is the one with ALL the secrets?
