GALAXY: New Games Starting! From: alai@harmony (Eric Bales) Date: Sat, 17 Jun 1995 00:00:00 +0000 What is galaxy? Galaxy is a strategy game in which the goal is to capture and hold as many planets as you can while designing your ships, increasing your technology and enjoying diplomatic relations with those neighbours that you are not attacking. Where do I get the instructions and a more detailed description? Send mail to: alai@atreis.canton.oh.us With a subject of: sendme docs The mailer will automatically send you the documentation. Please make sure that you spell both the account and machine names correctly. They are somewhat unusual spellings. What games are starting? I am starting two galaxy games, one of each time-flavour. palmyra: This will be a one turn per week game, turns will be run on Fridays. center: This will be a two turn per week game, turns will be run on Monday and Thursday. Both games were offered to people on the Galaxy Mailing list first. Palmyra has 40 players already signed up. I will accept as many as sign up before the game starts. Center has 38 players signed up, same procedures. Rules? Play will be according to the rules according to Russel Wallace, as returned by my mailer if requested. Group victories WILL NOT BE ALLOWED. This is a change from how my past games have run, however it is closer to the original rules. A single person will be allowed only one position in each game. If it has been determined, in the GM's opinion, that the same person has been playing more than one position in a game, that person will forfeit both positions. That person will also be banned from play in all future games of Galaxy run by me. Their Email address will be sent out to all known Galaxy GMs so that other GMs can do as they see fit also. There are NO exceptions to this rule. The reason for this is that playing more than one position in the same game can seriously upset the balance of power in the game, and the fairness of the game for the other players. Do you provide an orders checker? Yes. I have installed the galaxy checker, and a program of my own to check for some other problems with orders. However, since I only pop my mail off the server twice a day, at around 5am and 8pm, you will not receive a response until then. How long does a game take? It can take an hour or so to prepare your turn orders near the beginning of the game. Should you be one of the lucky ones, toward the end of the game turn orders can take from four to six hours to prepare. Please be sure you can handle the time requirements. How long does a game last? one turn per week games: These generally for last for 2 years. two turn per week games: These generally last around one year. Please make sure you will have uninterrupted mail access for the duration of the game. (Advance orders can be sent in for short vacations, but if you will be gone for summer break you will need to be sure you can make arrangements to have someone else play your position until you get back. Someone who is not already playing in the game.) How do I join? THE FOLLOWING IS CASE SENSITIVE!!! Please user lower case for everything. Send Email to: alai@atreis.canton.oh.us with a subject of: join palmyra -OR- join center The body of the message can be left blank. It will not be seen by me. Be sure and send the Email from the account that you will be playing the game from, as the Email address will be pulled off of the headers of your mail. If your Email is not sent case-sensitive, you will not get a response from the server. (Again, the response will not be instant, as I only get mail twice a day.) Please send it again. Games will be filled in a first-come first-served basis. Again, the games are: palmyra: one turn per week center: two turns per week Happy conquests! -- -- alai@atreis.canton.oh.us -Eric Bales- -The Second Dolphin- Dolphins. Soon you will be one of us and then you will understand. Up
